SAN CLEMENTE – Two marines were found beaten outside a bar this morning and transported to a hospital in Santa Ana, authorities said.

The Orange County Sheriff's Department received a call at 2:33 a.m. that two marines were badly beaten outside Goody's Tavern, at 206 S. El Camino Real.

One of the Camp Pendleton marines had an eye swollen shut and cuts on the head, and was streaming in and out of consciousness, said Lt. Larry Abbott.

The other man had a broken arm.

Nobody was arrested and the reason for the altercation was unknown, Abbott said.

The two men were transported to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana.

Their identities were not immediately available.

Deputies are investigating if alcohol was a factor.
