Hello All,
I was curious as to the process of changing ones enlistment contract. Assumming the job/contract one desires is available, do you simply tell your recruiter and sign a new contract? Or do you sign your new contract when you swear in at M.E.P.S right before you ship?
Thanks !

Talk to your recruiter.

Thanks for the reply. I did speak to my recruiter, and he left me a message stating that I was good to go and my contract has been changed. He is now out of town and I have not been able to get in touch with him. I would assume that I would have to sign this new contract at some point, I am just not sure if it can wait until I go to MEPS again to ship.
Thanks

To tell you the truth I don't think you will have to sign another contract. However, you may have to sign you job field form. I cannot remember if that is something you have to sign, but that is what guarantees your job field and secures you a spot in training. If your recruiter says you are good to go, I would still ask (so you can see that form), but you should be good. I know a few of the guys in my RS have had theirs changed or have finally made a decision on their MOS and it seems like an easy process and I know they didn't have to go to MEPS again to redo it.

I would make sure you see it in writing before you take off for bootcamp, otherwise you can get screwed like that!

Agreed, definitely see it in writing...my post made it sound more like everything was peachy, but MAKE SURE you see something in writing, but what I meant in my post was do not be surprised if it is not your contract, but a job field form.

Thanks guys for all your input. I am assuming that I will have to sign my new contract (it is a longer enlistment so I def. have to sign more than just the job form) when I swear in again at M.E.P.S. right before I ship at the latest. I will make sure to tell my recruiter that I am not shipping until I sign the new contract.
Thanks.

I spoke to a liaison officer at MEPS. He was a Marine career counselor or something. He gave me my ship date and offered me a bunch of different MOS. I refused them all and said I wanted Infantry. He didn't give it to me on the spot but the next week, my recruiters called me in and showed my my new UH contract. I signed it and everything and got my copy.
