26th MEU stops in Spain on return trip home

The 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit is one step closer to home.
The ships of the Bataan Expeditionary Strike Group stopped in Rota, Spain, late last week and off-loaded vehicles and equipment used during the deployment.
The equipment was washed down and inspected before being reloaded for the last leg of the return journey across the Atlantic Ocean to Camp Lejeune, N.C.
Washdowns are routine for units returning from overseas deployments to make sure they do not bring back foreign soil, seeds or bacteria that may harm wildlife and agriculture in the U.S.
The 26th MEU left North Carolina on Jan. 6 for a routine, six-month deployment, during which the unit’s Marines and sailors trained in Kuwait and participated in humanitarian missions in Africa.
