Greetings all, I'm currently a 17 year old high school student on summer vacation and I am planning on going to P.I. when I turn nineteen years old. It has always been my ambition to joined the armed services and at a young age I became aware that Marines are the elite fighting force of America. Hitting the gym everyday makes me aware that it will be a lot more demanding then what I am currently doing with myself yet I'm afraid that it simply will not change me as a person. Getting screamed at and all that are some of the things I go through everyday and I am in great shape.
I really want to come back as a different person when I am done with this journey and don't really know how to ensure that. I mean I want to see such a remarkable change in my character and behaviourisms that people barely notice me. I really want to separate myself from mainstream america and the slobs of today!

How can I be assured that I will change into a better human being?

A side note, why would someone who spent 17 years on this beautiful earth decide to give his whole life to a country he barely has faith in?

For the helluvit

i dont think you will notice a change but more than likely your current friends will at tleast this was the case with me.

And there are a lot of things i dont agree with our country isnt what id like it to be either but its the politicians its like how patriotism everyone should have but it doesnt mean a person agrees with the current government.

Either way hope you'll have a blast and the best times in your life will be with Marines and definately there will be hard ones too.

Let me tell you something..................you may be used to getting screamed and yelled at everyday but, NOTHING like what a Drill Instructor will do to you. And, TRUST ME when I tell you, you WILL be a changed man when you step off of a Marine Corps Recruit Depot!

All of us that have done it already are NOTHING like what we were before we went in. Ask ANY of the other Marines in here. We call ALL assure you on that.

And you need to come up with a better stupid side question. If you have no faith in your country - GET THE FK OUT! You should have to live in another country (full time) and see just how fking good you DO have it here.

Man you're barely 17, don't worry about the change. Your gonna change soo much in the next two years (before you even enlist) that who knows how you're gonna be by the time your 19. Everything we experience in life shapes our being so it's impossible to go through something like recruit training and not have it effect you, just don't worry about it now. Honestly the person you are in High School is nothing like who you will be as an adult (it's hard to see that when your in school, but once high school is over you get over that **** quickly). The change will come so don't worry about that.

I think certain MOSes (how do I spell that?) require the person to be 19. At least that's what I've read about the Military Police.

Exactly, I wanted to join the Marines at 17 but chit happen, then I went to college when i was 18 and I left real quick once I saw the people from my high school who've come back from AF, Navy, and Army training. Do it now, take advantage of your age, I was surprised to know that we have 19 yr Cpls who've already served two tours. I t'll this day, never heard someone say they wanted to join the Marines at 19. 19 is an odd number, 18 is more like it. Get in shape and don't worrry about the changing, it comes along with the training.

Wow I wondered how this one blew up, but I failed to pay attention to details and just skimmed. I agree that not everything in this world is how I like it, but unless you attempt to change it you are just as bad as the politicians, fat slobs, and whatever. If you have no faith in the country you are even WORSE! Go to that Moto page and see why people have faith in this country. Everyday there are men, women, children, and their families who sacrifice either on the field of battle, or in the struggle for their own lives. Just thank the Lord that you have been given the OPPORTUNITY to do, be, and experience anything you want in life because of the sacrifices of others and the health given to you by the Lord.

I sure as hell hope that you have a big change. I hope the change is that you decide to move to France and stay as far away from MY Marine Corps as possible. America is a free country, if you don't love it, get the Fuk out.

I had a boxing class and I knocked out when I got home. I appreciate the honesty on these boards. Some real distinguished characters.

One thing I have a huge problem with is the whole if you dont have faith in the country get the (for lack of better word) out...

To me thats just pretty ignorant. If you aren't a partisan for your country you shouldn't be exiled just for that itself. Imagine if every influential person who didn't like the way things were going in America just GTFO? All civil rights leaders, George Washington and so on wouldn't try to reform it and leave everyone else assed out.

Otherwise I see all your other points. Not going when I'm 18 because I need to get A LOT out of my system before the three month drought.

Damn thats pretty emotional yet moving at the same time.

I appreciate everyone who serves hence me joining, I never said "Fuk dat" I said it's ignorant. If you look through the corps you will notice the common attitude is that society today is "Nasty" and "Undisciplined", so to have the idea that this nation isn't what it could be is actually the corps way of thinking.

Marines and other forces serving our nation are becoming cultural landmarks in todays "nasty" society. They are cultures in their own and feel disassociated with "The American Way".

America is being feminized and being politically correct and all of its triviality is becoming common ground. Marines and armed forces are by nature very man-oriented meaning isolation from the American lifestyle is almost inevitible.

So why would you disagree with the mindset you will most likely adopt in the corps?

I dont know what mindset I may have but I will always respect those who came before me. Those are their' footprints on Parris Island that I will walk behind and all through my years in the CORPS. Everything has been before, we might do it with new guns new aircrafts and new computers.

You listen to your priest way to much.

I don't know about that, but he definitely has spent way too much time in the Northeast of this country. Come to the damn heartland...the Midwest, the South, anywhere but there and not only will your values change, but your ideals of America...Its a great country when the people around you are making a change in it and use their blood, sweat, and tears to do it. Come visit...I'll show you real America!

bgsuwoody
06-21-07, 07:16 PM
I can also see a battle of big words coming...I've been trying to stop talking like I'm writing a term paper, but I hate to be called ignorant, while the individual sits on an ivory tower. We'll see ;)

IF you become a Marine, people will notice you whether you like it or not. YOU noticed this site, didn't you? And it's slap full of unnoticed Marines.

I really want to separate myself from mainstream america and the slobs of today!

You can do that without joining the Corps.

How can I be assured that I will change into a better human being?

Nobody can guarantee you'll be better but.................you'll be different than what you are now.

A side note, why would someone who spent 17 years on this beautiful earth decide to give his whole life to a country he barely has faith in?

Again, try living someplace else and see how much faith you have in the good ole U S of A then. If you already HAVE lived in another country then what are you still doing here ?

zackmerc
06-21-07, 08:54 PM
Canada and Mexico suck. Why go there when you have here to stay?

I'm turning 19 soon. I wanted to go when I was barely turned 18 but I was too deep in the school year and would have had to wait some six months so I had to freaking wait. Better go at age 18. 19 is a weird age.

AbSofSteeL A side note, why would someone who spent 17 years on this beautiful earth decide to give his whole life to a country he barely has faith in?

I don't have faith in much anything, I don't believe in a religon at all, I have no faith in "black" people, but I do have faith in what I'm trying to do. I don't even believe in the war in Iraq. But I'm trying to join because I wanna know whats out there, I've seen homeless people in GA, I've seen starving and dying kids in Africa with my own eyes. I've heard the stories of women getting raped and burn and getting their arms chopped off and what the cruelty that a rival group has done. I want to make a difference in this world, I owe America something, I owe my parents something. I've been pretty lucky, I was homeless for a short short short stint, lost my way but thanks to my brother I'm on the road again.

I lived in a trailer park, I lived in a 1 room apartment with 5 people, I lived in a gang infested area in Macon Ga. I've even been shot at. ( I was playing basketball in the park) Now my parent let me move back into this big ass house.
http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w203/Hurricane0311/DSC_0017.jpg

I've heard from the left and I've heard from the right, I don't listen to much what they say, they rarely affect me in what they're trying to do. I know for a fact George Bush dosen't give a damn about me personally, neither does my mayor, neither does the Governor of Georgia.

I don't know the reason your joining and I really could give two chits. The Marines are a breed of people, they're different, special, elite, and proud people. They believe strongly in service to country, faith in god, and fighting till the last man and woman. (Can't leave LCpl. 84 behind)

If you don't have faith in America, then your not willing to die for her. I know I'm certainely am, and I'll do whatever is asked of me. As most of the Marines on this board feel the same way.

AbSofSteeL

That was cool of you. That picture is worth TWO million words.

I don't have a priest!
You're damn right the north east has led me to believe the things I do. I see what you mean and for the most part feel the same way. I DO want to see whats out there, so bad I'll put my life on the line in the process. Why don't you have faith in blacks? You lost me right there.

I'm barely seventeen and I'm joining in a year. Believe me, You can get things "out of your system" REAL quick when you have a DI chewing you out.

You don't join the Marine Corps for "the helluvit" as you like to say. If you want to change your life and make yourself a better person, go on the Dr. Phil show, but if you want to serve your country and feel the pride of standing next to your brothers and sisters and knowing that you've done something for your country, and preserved the freedom of your own nation, join the Marines. DO NOT join because it sounded like a good idea. good ideas change REAL quick with the wrong moto.
