What is a Black Flag day?
ElDiablo
06-19-07, 10:20 AM
I'm pretty sure it's a day when it's to hot to PT or do anything outside.
jinelson

You are correct ElDiablo.

ElDiablo

What do you do when you have a Black Flag Day? Do they still let you PT inside? Just wondering.
I'd imagine Black Flag is almost non-existent nowadays considering we're at war in a desert.
ElDiablo

Good point. Any Marines out there know?

06-19-07, 10:33 AM
You are correct....
The other day with the weather here in Jacksonville NC...hitting in the 90's..
my daughter who works on Camp Johnson was listening to a few of the Marines after there PTing..
They were stating how hot it was, when one of the Marines stated the Marines were dropping like flies....during their 5 mile run...
Out of the platoon 70 Marines could not make the run....
My daughter stated didn't they teach You to drink Your water....
They stated Yes, but a few thought they could beat the heat....;)

I have a friend that is at PI now. He says that it's 104 degrees there. The Black flag goes up (when it's 95 degrees or more) almost everyday. They stop all outdoor training, go indoors or in the shade. Of course the DIs have a way of using that time for them!
killerinstinct
06-19-07, 10:47 AM
there is also rules to how long you have been there i.e aclimated. there are different colored flags and depending how long you have been there is your limitation on what you can do. Normally in certain areas like in school status they move PT from 1400 to 0600.

06-19-07, 11:39 AM
When the Black flag is up no strenuious activity is permitted. The navy can't handle the heat casualties.
ElDiablo
06-19-07, 11:41 AM
Of course the DIs have a way of using that time for them!
Like playing cards, right? ;) lol. So what do you do during this time? Do you clean, and get all your gear organized or what? Just like to know.
20070709MCRDSD
06-19-07, 11:58 AM
Is it true that they "have more games than Milton Bradley"? If so, do we get to play Uno or sorry during this time? Im sure that it would be a great team-buiding exercise.
ElDiablo
06-19-07, 12:03 PM
I'd rather play Stratego or Risk. But if they have Monopoly, I'm definetly in. lol.

Black Flag days hurt more than normal days. You do some stupid things in the squad bay. You move racks around and play Indy 500, you thrash on the quarter deck, and generally waste time until you can get back on the training schedule.
ElDiablo
06-19-07, 12:10 PM
Indy 500? What's that?
Echo_Four_Bravo
06-19-07, 12:17 PM
You get a towell. You put it on the ground. You put your hands on it. You do laps around the squad bay.
And for keeping the UPPER BODY strength from going lapse, there is always the MANUAL of FOOTLOCKER.
ElDiablo
06-19-07, 12:32 PM
So even on Black Flag days, there's still PT. :) Everyone I talk to say they always hoped for a Black Flag Day because they didn't do much. Does this depend on what the DI's do, or were they pulling my leg?
20070709MCRDSD
06-19-07, 12:37 PM
Is the barracks air conditioned or is it just inside in the shade? Im not asking, because I want to sit in there and sip some lemonade, I just want to know if that is why they move it inside, and if it ever get to hot in there that they have to black flag it also.?

Oh come on, when we say 'fill out your profile', you don't have to give your name, address, your social security number or a list of your secret fears. Initials will do for the name, and the bare basics wont give away your location.
I once did some PT when it was about 100 degrees out. Needless to say I didn't make it far.

I told you, I'll do it the night before I ship out. I dont feel safe.
Your name, your hobbies, what movies, books you like isn't asking for your frickin' street name and door number.

Black Flag my but. Vietnam never heard of a "Black Flag". When I was at the "Stumps" they said no more "Trop Days" same as a black flag. We would go out to the field and fire the 8in all day long. Inside the truent the temp. sometimes got to 145 FH. We had trucks pulling water buffs all day long. Try going down on a "Tar Mac" at the Stumps or at Yuma Az. It can get 145 fh or higher. BLACK FLAG my butt.

Oh hell, I don't know what the hell you have to be afraid of on an internet forum...have you heard of a Drill Instructor or Iraq...be afraid of these things...not the damn internet.
But let me just explain a few things to you, before someone else does it.
Your recruiter will see if theres a slot. but plz fill out your profile first. You wrote this to Wanna Serve Stl...Don't demand things that you cannot give yourself...read my signature...its living proof. This is one thing that pushes my buttons and turns the switch real quick
Second off, you didn't tell me anything and per my searches I found nothing on the matter that you discussed with Marines, if you have a problem with the rules Staff Sergeant Nelson would be more than willing to set you straight ricky tick. However since he hasn't, when the rules demand that ALL RECRUITS fill out their profiles that means you too.
Tell your DI you don't feel safe when he sends your platoon to the pit and you don't want to go. I didn't see any posts that anyone elected to let you be special, so lets not get used to that. Individuality is the fastest way to find yourself on the quarterdeck.
Here's the links again to read the rules:

My bad, I just noticed that some people had put their initials down instead of their full names and no-one seemed to have a problem with that. But you're right, everyone should give a name (even if it's just a first name) to identify them outside of their screen name.

Ok son, let's get things straight...you were the one who said you were "SCARED." I clearly pointed out several reasons why you should be taking the rules seriously. You will see one reason...and that is that many of your posts were deleted by Ellie. There is always a price to pay for insubordination.
We all have enough to worry about, but if you are going to be on this forum, you have a few extra minor things to worry about, like following the rules and keeping yourself on the goodside of the Marines. Take it or leave it, but you will find some serious help and some good MOTO from this site, but with it comes some limit to your choices of what you want to do.
Thank you for setting up your profile. It was nothing against you, but it is important that everyone follow the rules. Good luck and use this site to prepare yourself like me and the other members of this forum.

Respect of the rules and of the Marines is mandatory...they've earned it...
Respect for the poolees/wannabes comes if others believe you deserve it...PERIOD! Earn it and your time here will be more enjoyable.
Let's give you a Marine Corps knowledge lesson with that...
Leadership Principles that you may need to work on
Principle 2: Know yourself and seek self-improvement
Principle 5: Set the Example
Principle 8: Make SOUND and timely decisions
Principle 11: Take responsibility for your actions

It's OK, I get the email reminders everytime somebody makes a post - I've read them.
He must be thinking that since he'll be down there when they fly the black flag the most that bootcamp may not be that hard. If that black one flies, they just move you to the shade to sit and clean your weapon or you go inside where it's air conditioned (well, for the biggest part) and clean your weapon. And they WILL stay on your butt to make sure you drink enough water - don't think one will take pity on your stupid a$$ if you don't - they could be holding you up in a shower of cold water and steady raising immortal hell at you because you didn't drink enough.
OH!....................and since everybody said something to New York about not wanting to put his real name up on his profile, he will be forever known as New York. Every now and then we like to call one another by our given names and I dub you NEW YORK! I just hope I don't confuse you with this other guy running around here with numbers for a screen name - JEEZ! I hope you guys are more creative on the porn sites you visit!

It's a pretty good practice to not worry about possible punishments, screw ups, or days where you won't be training )on this forum especially).
A. Worrying about the games and/or punishments make's you seem like you have no confidence in yourself and are anticipating being a fu/ck-tard.
and
B. Worrying about black flag/non-pt days makes you seem like you're trying to skate by.
Both are good ways to get the posters of this site to pounce. And once the bloods in the water we attack. No body wants a weak chink in the chain of the Corps from the Commandant all the way down to the poollees.

What he doesn't realize is that by doing it his way, it only pizzed a lot of Marines off. Marine have a way of getting the job done, we adapt, improvise, overcome! There is the unwise rebellious type. A smart arse that, "This rule does not apply to me, I can think of a way around it!" They have a hard way to go that may not end in Honor.
Then there is the general hardass type. "I'm already a tough guy, what can you teach me?" They are surprised as hell at what we to teach them. They can handle local neighborhood threats with two or three bro's. We then teach how to handle Global Threats with 150,000 Bros. :usmc:

Heat raises a black flag at Lejeune
CHRISSY VICK
DAILY NEWS STAFF
The extreme heat can be dangerous for Marines who train daily aboard Camp Lejeune.
That's why a black flag was issued aboard the base for all Marine units around 10 a.m. Tuesday, which indicates that the temperature is 90 degrees and above, and all nonessential physical activity aboard the base should be halted for all units.
Camp Lejeune spokesman 2nd Lt. Craig Thomas said the black flag status allows all commands aboard the base to be aware of how extreme heat can affect the Marines and sailors during training.
"The Marine Corps goes to great lengths to educate our Marines on all the pitfalls of training outside, whether it's cold weather, hot weather, being hydrated - all those factors are important," he said. "We have to make sure the Marine has the knowledge to recognize heat stress or hypothermia because we train year round."
But they may be back out in the field for at least the next two days: Accuweather forecasts indicate highs in the mid-80s today and Thursday, while Friday and Saturday will be bumping 90 degrees.
Marines are given regular cold and hot weather safety training, while commands are aware of the Automated Heat Stress System, a new system for heat stress information that can be accessed online.
The information is updated daily as the temperature changes. The wet-bulb globe temperature index was formerly calculated manually aboard the base but is now done using a heat stress monitor that uses sensors, according to the Camp Lejeune Web site.
All Marines and sailors can access the AHSS, which designates five colors of flags according to the temperature throughout the day.
<F06E>A blue flag indicates a wet-bulb globe temperature index below 80 degrees, when all activity is permitted.
<F06E>A green flag falls between 80 and 84.9 degrees and advises that heavy exercises, for those who are not acclimatized, be conducted with caution and under constant supervision.
<F06E>A yellow flag falls between 85 and 87.9 degrees and advises that strenuous exercises, such as marching at standard cadence, be avoided for troops in their first 3 weeks who are not acclimated and to avoid outdoor classes in the sun.
<F06E>A red flag falls between 88 and 89.9 degrees and advises that all physical training be avoided for troops who have not become thoroughly acclimatized by at least 12 weeks. Troops who are acclimated may carry on limited activity not to exceed 6 hours per day.
<F06E>A black flag is any temperature 90 degrees and above and advises that all nonessential physical activity be halted for all units.

Give me a break you cranky old heathen! You went San Diego where it's always 74 degrees year round and the recruits have jacuzzis in their squad bays! Where the Drill Instructors put chocolate mints on their pillows every night as they tuck them in!

As I recall our guidon changed colors as we progressed; from green to yellow to red-indicating your phase in training; so you could tell immediately if a platoon was in conditions they weren't acclimated to yet. Of course this was in '68, not the "old Corps" that ggyoung was in.
