View Full Version : Compromising

Seriously I think the liberals and conservatives divide is tearing this country apart. We need to be united as one American people. That means both sides need to take a step back and compromise. Here's what I think.

Conservatives need to back off on banning gay marriage. If two people of the same sex are in love want to be together and gain the financial advantages of married couples, let them be. It does not affect you. If you think it's immoral, then so are strip clubs, so its second hand smoke. Ban them all?

Liberals need to back off on gun control. This is a free country, law abiding citizens should be allowed to own firearms for recreation and self defense. However, the existing background checks and cool down periods etc. should remain in place. What happened at V. Tech was unforeseen and could not possibly have been prevented. Quit using it as ammo for air tight gun control laws.

Conservative and Liberals BOTH need to back off on their rock solid stances on the Iraq War. For conservatives, they insist that we keep our involvement in Iraq, and even escalate, even though it is clear our strategy has been flawed and there have been little to no results. Liberals insist on a speedy withdrawal. Doing so will only lead to a speedy collapse of the Iraqi government and chaos and anarchy, which will destabilize a region.

Come to the table with both sides willing to compromise and find a solution...FAST. Americans are dying and Iraqi civilians are dying. There is no time to waste.

Conservatives need to back off on always trying to cut taxes for higher income citizens and opposition against the welfare system. A rich man paying more taxes will not end his life, but America has a responsibility to ensure that American citizens have access to basic needs such as food, shelter and education.

Liberals need to back off on clamoring for universal healthcare. It is too costly and impractical. However, conservatives also need to play along and cave a little here. We must make every effort to make sure Americans can afford the medical treatment that they need.

Just a few thoughts

going to bed,

I agree. The fundamental problem with that is in the way politics is presented to us as a team sport. If you don't agree with us 100%, you must be on the other team, and that's wrong. Then there's the trash-talking and general slander from each team about the other; trying to convince you that the other team is evil and trying to ruin the country. It's no wonder that most Americans don't have much of an idea what the other side's position really is and why... or that, in reality, there is no other side. We all just want what's best for our country and we're all sick of politicians standing in the way of that.

Hope you didn't lose any sleep coming up with that one.
Occasionally I think about Ellen Degeneres when she was just starting out and thought she was a pretty good comedian. When I found out she was gay then completely forgot about the comedian part and now when I see her on tv I think there is another flamer polluting the airwaves. I can respect two people deciding to live together and mutually share lifes expenses. What I can't respect is a bunch of freaks walking around in assless chaps holding hands and kissing each other in public.

Offering handouts to people will most likely produce a very long line of people with their hand out. I have personnally rolled pennies to buy a gallon of milk and stood in line behind a woman buying lobster with foodstamps. I also know a man that lives in the inner city in Mn who is in his late 50's that has not earned enough money in his lifetime to be able to collect SS when he reaches retirement age. He is concerned about his weight. He also blames GW for his plight.

A gunny was once asked how many boots he could fit in a cattle car and his response was "At least one more" . I say that if a guy wakes up one morning and decides he is a terrorist and wants to kill a Marine that we should have a Marine there to show him what a bad idea that was.

I note that conservatives are expected to cave on gay marriage, the Iraq war, and lowering taxes. They should also take a pass on insisting that universal healthcare won't work.
Its all well and good all the ideas put forth here, excluding the half-wit.

Unfortunately, for the common American citizen, there is a new component to the MIC slowing peaceful coexistence, the Think Tank.

What is a Think Tank ? Simply put, smart people who stay up night thinking up ways to manipulate minds, like the minds of our sincere brothers Sgt Leprechaun & Lance/Colonel HOLM.

Outsmart them !

What's it called when "conservatives" do the same thing then? In fact, I'm fairly certain I've never even heard of a liberal think tank. I'm sure there are plenty out there, but the only major think tank I've heard of is PNAC and well... it goes without saying.

Cool! To make the survey more 'correct', I re-ran it with quote marks (cuts down on the nonessential stuff)

Results 1 - 10 of about 208,000 for "conservative (http://www.google.com/url?sa=X&oi=dict&q=http://www.answers.com/conservative%26r%3D67&usg=AFQjCNELwLRu_ytv4jUVhjJJppSzJ1bSyA) think tank (http://www.google.com/url?sa=X&oi=dict&q=http://www.answers.com/think%2Btank%26r%3D67&usg=AFQjCNFuK3GgYJrmY7mZyanZ_qlsPJ0_gQ)". There are far more 'conservative' think tanks than liberal ones, I'll grant the point. Recently read an article someplace bemoaning that very fact, and stating the left is trying to do more of them.

Of course, my position on that is "Fine"...but, I consider most colleges 'liberal think tanks' anyway.

Most college instructors are liberals, but believe me they are not as far left as you may think.

Now don't give me some radical one in a million example of some whacko professor who happens to be some huge hippie that antagonizes and gives lower grades to known servicemembers either...lol

most college professors are not like that

Again....how is a 'liberal' not 'far left' LOL.

I can pull up plenty more than just one....
