My date was recently changed again, but I don't mind. I was just wondering who, if anyone on this site, was shipping out this coming week,
and where they are shipping from. Maybe we could meet up on the bus, or at bootcamp and try to get the same platoon. :D
Well, wish me luck everyone.
Be back in 3 months.

Gallons of sweat and hard work. For the past 232 years we won't take anyone that will quit on us. We will see if you have that Never Quit Attitude!

Ya, sounded silly to me too. About the meeting on the bus thing, and trying to get the same platoon. I'm going in alone, and I prefer it that way, but My recruiter was the one that suggested that I try to find a friend on the bus, and that we were most likely to have the same platoon if we were on the same bus. Oh well, it doesn't matter anyway, I'll be around 70 new people either way.

Oh, and I was wondering... When you leave bootcamp, do you get to keep all of your stuff with you that they issue you? I know you can't take your rifle with you, but as far as cammies, uniforms, and personal gear?

If you quit it won't matter much either way.

Keep it? You had better cause every now and then you have what they call a JOB (Junk On the Bunk) inspection and you'll have to lay it out all nice and neat and pretty! HAHAHAHAHAHA!

And I don't believe anything is "given" to you - if I remember correctly, uniforms were taken out of my pay that I was earning while there.

Hmmm... What do these words mean that you and Yellow keep mentioning.

"Give" and "quit"

They're not in my vocabulary.

Never Quit!
RAYMOND M. CLAUSEN'S MEDAL OF HONOR

Rank and Organization: Private First Class, Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 263, Marine Aircraft Group 16, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing

Place and date: Republic of Vietnam, 31 January 1970

Entered service at: New Orleans, Louisiana

Born: 14 October 1947, New Orleans, Louisiana

Citation:

For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty while serving with Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 263 during operations against enemy forces.

Participating in a helicopter rescue mission to extract elements of a platoon which had inadvertently entered a mine field while attacking enemy positions Pfc. Clausen skillfully guided the helicopter to a landing in an area cleared by 1 of several mine explosions. With 11 Marines wounded, 1 dead and the remaining 8 Marines holding their positions for fear of detonating other mines, Pfc. Clausen quickly leaped from the helicopter and, in the face of enemy fire, moved across the extremely hazardous mine laden area to assist in carrying casualties to the waiting helicopter and in placing them aboard.

Despite the ever-present threat of further mine explosions he continued his valiant efforts leaving the comparatively safe area of the helicopter on 6 separate occasions to carry out his rescue efforts. On one occasion while he was carrying one of the wounded, another mine detonated, killing a corpsman and wounding three other men. Only when he was certain that all Marines were safely aboard did he signal the pilot to lift the helicopter. By the courageous, determined and inspiring efforts in the face of the utmost danger, Pfc. Clausen upheld the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and of the U.S. Naval Service.

Actually Woody, I've been DEP'd in now for almost a year, they pushed it back, instead of moved it up. I was supposed to be gone last weekend on the 11th. I wouldn't call it luck though, I would call it... 11 slow months until bootcamp.

Ray Clausen was an ordinary PFC that saw fellow Marines in a world of hurt. He acted like any other Marine would, " I got to help them!"
