SEAFORD — Official dedication Saturday of special street markers honoring two fallen U.S. Marines from Seaford will coincide with mobile support services benefiting Delmarva-area military veterans slated to wheel into Harley-Davidson of Seaford.

The city of Seaford and 39th District state Rep. Daniel B. Short, R-Seaford, will dedicate markers in tribute to Marine Cpl. Cory L. Palmer and Lance Cpl. Richard Z. James, who died from injuries sustained in Iraq a week apart in May 2006.

Families, including Gold Star Mothers of the two Marines have been invited to the dedication, which will begin around 10:30 a.m. at the Seaford Harley-Davidson dealership on U.S. 13.

“They were very special young people who gave their lives that you and I might have freedom,” said Seaford Mayor Edward H. Butler Jr. “I think that we really need to remember them. This is what makes the United States and Seaford be able to be free. And certainly to all those that are now serving, we continue to remember them and support them and their families.”

The markers, scheduled to be installed on their respective streets Monday, feature the names of the Marines, their unit insignia and Marine Corps emblem.

These dedications are being conducted on the arrival day of the Harley’s Heroes Tour featuring the Disabled American Veterans Mobile Service Office.

Harley-Davidson of Seaford is one of more than 150 dealerships where benefits assistance will be offered to veterans of all ages in communities where they live.

Supported by a $1 million grant from the Harley-Davidson Foundation, the mission of the Harley’s Heroes Tour is provide access to benefits for all veterans and show appreciation for their service and sacrifice for freedom and America.

While on the 2007 tour, the DAV’s mobile office will provide benefits and counseling to veterans who suffer from service-related injuries but may never have filed a benefits claim or encountered difficulty working with the Department of Veterans Affairs.

The DAV provides an important service to veterans in that injuries during military service sometimes take years to manifest.

Also on Saturday at 11 a.m., Harley-Davidson of Seaford will hold its third bi-annual Troop Ride in support of Operation Uplink, which provides communication connecting troops deployed overseas with families at home.

The ride is $10 per person and includes a Harley’s Heroes pin, a continental lunch, an escorted ride to the Federalsburg Veterans of Foreign Wars bike show and special parking at the show.

Several years ago a street marker precipitated by then 39th District Rep. Tina Fallon was dedicated in honor of Army Ranger Spc. Ryan P. Long of Seaford, who was killed in Iraq in April 2003.
