My max pull-ups is 20 i complete my mile and a half under 10 and can only do 75 crunches but im getting better. What else is needed of me to Earn PFC during Boot Camp?

Becoming a squad leader,a guide, or a scribe will not gaurantee PFC, but it will improve your chances. If you do not pick up PFC in boot camp, you can always pick it up at MCT, SOI, or your MOS school.

Refer two friends to join up and you will get Pfc.

Or have a semesters worth of college credit.

Occasionally there are meritorious PFC boards held in boot camp. You stand before a board and answer knowlege questions. Your physical prowess and military appearance are already in the books.

Occasionally a drill instructor can say that kid is a stud and I'd like to see him promoted. The board from there on is just a show.

This actually brings up a question somebody asked me the other day:

Can a fresh recruit with no prior experience, and only 1 semester of college at most, be promoted beyond PFC out of boot?
Lets say you sign two friends up AND have a semesters worth of credits AND kick major butt on PFT, squad leader, etc..

I think that you have to be a Company Honor Guide to get LCpl.

What does that job imply that you do

Yeah, that's how LCpl Stam got it. He was Company Honor man and was meritoriously promoted to E-3

I would recommend searching for your questions. Most of them will have most lengthy answers already. Including getting PFC and LCpl out of bootcamp. As well as guide and honor guide. These have all been covered numerous times and most are in threads on the first page actually!

The guide in my platoon graduated as a lance corporal. We all hated him but he was an eagle scout, 1st class swimmer and 300 PFT'r. I learned later that he made Corporal before I made PFC but I made Sergeant before he did.

To get LCPL out of boot, I would think for sure you would need to be a contract PFC like I was...as in...get two referrals, or have at least 12 (maybe) 13 college credits. During boot camp, you would need to become the guide by being perfect in PFT. Rifle range and other things will not affect you becoming guide all that much, unless you unq, our guide was a low marksman, and 3rd class swimmer. Rifle qual, and swim qual could affect you becoming the Honor Guide, but you could get meritoriously promoted regardless of being Honor Guide I would think.

20 pull ups is good, but don't be disappointed when you do a few less on the IST...you will know why when you get off the bus.

I can't swim..but I was told the Corps will teach us how to swim anyway?
I figured that's better than nothing...all I can do right now is float.

You should probably start learning. I don't think you'll want to go in with zero knowledge, especially with the Drill Instructors prowling around...

I would have said "Best Get Learnin'" but I see you leave in 3 days...However I don't know what the expectations are, but as a person who has taught swimming for 3 summer before this, I doubt they have the effective amount of time if they were to have to train an entire platoon.

They did for my dad. He said he couldn't swim a foot, but when he got to Boot Camp they pushed him in and made him swim. It's what he told me so it may not be the whole truth, and this was back in mid 80's, so things could have changed. But not knowing how to swim could be a problem.

They did my uncle the same way two months ago. He nearly died during OCS.

Huh. Didn't think they did that anymore. I thought with all the new regulations and BS that it would change. When my dad was in, they technically couldn't hit you, but they could "re-adjust their position". :)

From what I heard, he was in full gear and was pushed because he waited too long or something.

That's the same thing my dad told me. He said they were in full gear and they were told to jump off a diving tower or something and he didn't because he couldn't swim. One of his Drill Instructors came over, told him to get his skinny little f**king @$$ in the water and then pushed him in. My dad can swim like a fish now. :)

True story with no embellishment.
I hit the fleet as a pvt. We spent almost a month in the field and then went straight to the rifle range. Admin couldn't keep up with us so I got promoted about 2 months after it was due. My staff sergeant said I was going up for meritorious Lance the next day in Charlies. Because there was no way in hell I was gonna be able to show up to a board wearing PFC chevrons the gunny's wife brought her sewing machine to work and while I stood in line for the board she sewed chevrons on my charlie shirt. I made it to the board in uniform and took it. When I walked out she had sewn Lcpl chevrons on a second shirt. I actually wore PFC for about 1 hour.
