San Juan Capistrano is gearing up for a gigantic pre-deployment send-off for its adopted Marines and their families.

The June 23 celebration will be the first public event since the 1st Battalion 11th Marine Regiment (1/11) became part of the city's extended family last September. The artillery battalion will deploy to Iraq during the first week in July.

The event at Historic Town Center Park, 31806 El Camino Real, will feature a barbeque, live music, hay rides, dunk tank and other activities. It will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The community can donate funds to help offset the cost of the program. Donations: City Manager's Office, 32400 Paseo Adelanto, San Juan Capistrano, 92675. Checks should be addressed to San Juan Capistrano 1/11 Adoption Committee. Information: 949-443-6317.
