Ok due to the fact that I always get messages from poolees/wannabe's about what advice I have for them so that they may EARN the position of Guide. Ok so what does the Guide have to do; it is the Guides' job to always stay one step ahead of his squad leaders and the rest of the recruits and it's the squad leaders job to stay one step ahead of the recruits. So you see there is a chain of command. If another recruit is out-performing either a squad leader or the guide then that squad leader or guide will get replaced. Things are as simple as that. If you do have a billet and you get fired there are two ways that you can react... 1. you can turn into a sh*t bag and say screw everything I worked for. 2. Take it as a hint that you need to step things up a notch and earn your spot back. I had take option number 2 twice. If you make that choice then it will say alot about your character.

As far as the duties of the Guide are concerned they are simple, yet difficult. (Everything I say here will be blunt and to the point) The Marine Corps doesn't give a "hoot" what you want out of them. The purpose of you being there is to see what you can do for the Corps. During Recruit Training the rest of the recruits and the Marines around you ARE the Corps. Your priority must never be yourself or your own personal comfort...but instead the wellfare of those around you. Take care of them and they WILL take care of you. Loyalty above all else. If you are loyal to them they will follow you with pride. But you must also know the difference between taking care of them and babying them. If a recruit messes up then you nail him to the wall. And if you're leading correctly he'll be upset while he's getting punished but he'll be more upset because he let you down and in turn let himself down. Drill, PT, and knowledge are all important also. You must have discipline, be physically fit and know your stuff. If not then you will be one step BEHIND. A great leader will only be successful if he has the devotion and support of those following him. Other leaders may just shout and scream to get the job done. The job will get done but it won't be done as fast or nearly as effecient as it could have been. Remember, EARN THE RESPECT, EARN THE BILLET AND THE RANK.
