Ive been looking on here and couldn't find it. Whats the SOI like. Roughly the same as boot camp or tougher. What kind of free time do you have the the month or so that your there or is constant in the field time? I would like some feedback from someone who has been there recently.

I've been out of SOI for about 3 weeks. You're basically in the field for 18 out of the 22 days you'll be there. 90% of your chow will be MREs. You will live in the woods. You will dig holes. You will live in those holes. You will patrol through the woods. You will sleep on the deck when you go to the ranges. You will not shower or have running water or indoor plumbing at the ranges. You will hump EVERYWHERE!!! Your feet will blister up. You will shoot the 240G, throw grenades, learn combat marksmanship/combat marksmanship with NVGs, hump some more, go to classes, more classes, tests, more classes, hump, hump. You'll get 2-3 hours libbo on Sundays. At the ranges the libbo sucks cause there ain't sh*t out there but you and the porto-jons. You'll PT maybe twice. You'll do MCMAP probably twice. YOU WILL GET AN A*S LOAD OF TICKS ALL OVER YOU ( they especially like the balls and a** region and they can give you lyme disease ). SOI is 22 days of the Crucible.

Good luck.

Yea, it's actually a lot more to it than that, but it would take me forever if I went into all the details. You'll do alot of "I'm up he sees me I'm down" and MOUT training, the list truly goes on and on and on. SOI really suprised me because I had no idea what to expect. Now there won't be as many suprises for you.

SOI isn't all that bad...I went through back in 2000, and we had weekends off...and mine lasted about 2 or 3 months, i think....but then again, back then, I had to go through the rifleman training, and then I went to the weapons company for training on the mortar.

It was hard work, but if you signed to be a grunt, then get used to the load.
and when you get out...be prepared because your first unit will do things a little different than you learned...so don't think that everything you learn in SOI is set in stone...Semper Gumby (Always Flexible)

Are you talking about ITB or MCT? In MCT you simply do what the grunts do during the 3 weeks of common skills, except your humps are shorter, slower, and you carry less weight.

In ITB, if you're an 11 you will go to the field every single week and go out Monday and not come back until Friday. If you're a weapons MOS you'll spend most of your time in the classroom and go to the field for 2 weeks (not including time spent in the field during common skills) depending on your MOS, and everyone goes to the field for the BSRE which is basically a 3-day war game.

Accord, I think that I meant ITB for infantry marines. I was curious what that was like. I heard it was like 52 days or so and had questions about that portion for infantry Marines.
