Whats up guys, i am considering joining the USMC and was wondering if some of the Marines on this website can give me some of their information on MOS 5831-Correction Specialist.

What kind of hours do they usually work?
Do you get looked down upon for being a USMC CS?
What kind of Prisons does the Marine Corps have overseas?

Any other information about this MOS is greatly appreciated.

I work for the Federal Prison System now. A friend of mine was in the Army and stationed at Leavenworth. He loved every minute of it. Said there was a Marine Detachment there. Said not a bad gig. I got out and started working in a steel mill....Then fell into Corrections. I love it. I wish I knew of this when I joined the USMC. I would of went this way. Ontop of that the Feds are always hiring VETS & Correction background people. Good pay, easy work and mandatory retirement at 57 years of age. Good Luck and let me know.

Anybody know if i would be able to put on my contract that i would prefer going into corrections over mp(i know you can only get 58xx)? and if not does anybody know the chances i would actually get corrections specialist?

any other info is appreciated.

I got some firends that work in brigs thogh right now shes on the drill field.

But they work with all branches as you are assigend to the federal system or soemthing.. So where you get stationed includes a lot of places. i know the one on pendleton i think its ran by all Marines but on Miramar is a navy brig so they got all..

But dont quote me on that if you have a myspace send her a tell her husband is a correctional guy and on the drill field too..

I couldn't do corrections if I was paid a million bucks a year. I much preferred to work the streets.

I did 16 years in the corrections field. If you sign as a 58XX you could end up as an MP. Brig rats work various scehdules. None of it like the real world. As a marine you only have a few places to go. Pendleton, Lejeune, Quantico, Okinawa, Iwakuni(small detention facility) Lejuene is getting downsized to a detention facility and Pendleton the same. Navy Brig Miramar & soon to be built Charleston will take the Cons. I have been to them all and have held almost every position available within the facilities. They have not decide what to do with the guards as of yet. Corrections was good to me...it's not for everybody and as a young Brig Guard it can get boring(way better than an MP at the gate) and you have to have patience and tolerance of other individuals. You have to realize that the people you are dealing with are there as punsihment ...not to be punished. Corrections motto: Fair, Firm and Impartial. If you are thinking of getting into Law enforcement after the Corps whether it be a cop or a guard, the corrections field is a great choice. I have seen ALOT of former MP's not cut it on the civilian side. Corrections seemed to produce a more well rounded person of character. Good luck and if you have any other questions you can email me.

Just had a corrections officer killed here in the line of duty yesterday. Very sad.

God bless that public servant.

I saw a picture of the dirtbag that shot him. Time for a needle.

Wish I could download a pitcher of him from the news paper. This is the sorryest sob I have ever seen.
