Flags at half-staff for soldier at funeral home

Flags fly at half mast at Strickland's funeral home, honoring the service of a deceased American soldier.

The body of Lt. Col. Michael A. Robinson, United States Marines, was returned from Kabul, Afghanistan, where he died Friday, June 1, at Camp Engers.

Wednesday the family and representatives from Strickland's Funeral Home, met the plane bearing the body and returned to Hartwell with an honor guard.

At the state line, Sheriff Mike Cleveland and several deputies formed an official escort back to Hartwell and the funeral home.

Robinson, 42, of 2410 East North Ave., Anderson, S.C., was the husband of Kristi Jolly Robinson, daughter of Linda and Bob Jolly of Hartwell.


It was not known immediately how he died.

According to the preliminary obituary, the family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday night at the Strickland Funeral-Hartwell Chapel. The body will then be transported to Radney-Smith Funeral Home, Sylacauga, Ala., where the family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday night.

Funeral services will be Saturday, June 9, 2007, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of the Radney-Smith Funeral Home, Sylacauga, Ala., with Rev. David Lane officiating. Graveside services with full military honors will be held at New Site Baptist Church, Rockford, Ala. Cremation will follow the graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorials be made to the Greenville First Church of the Nazarene, 1201 Haywood Road., Greenville, S.C. 29615 or to New Site Baptist Church, c/o Fannie Robinson, Star Route, Box 23C, Weogufka, AL 35183

My mother knew Lt. Col. Robinson. His family is in our prayers.
