Any of you Marines ever meet the Sgt Major of the Marine Corps? I did one time, 1970 I was working in HqCo, Hq, FMFLANT CLNC, PC&AO office, when one day in November this man walked in my office lookng for Gen Fegan's office:

5th Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps (1969-1973)</td></tr></tbody> </table>
I was, to say the least, in awe! I'd never seen that insignia, in real life, and it scared the chit out of me that he spoke to me, a low ranking Corporal. I'll never forget that day. Turns out, he loved to golf with the General. They went way back in the Corps, it turned out. He was a really nice guy, he talked to me, asked me questions amd told me that if I ever needed his help to let him know, gave me his card and went to the Generals Office! A day I won't ever forget! Truly an honor for me!

My Hubby..."fontman" was the Admin Chief for SgtMaj Sommers from 1987-90.

He also knows SgtMaj Overstreet, as they were stationed together in Detroit, Michigan on recruiting duty back in 1972. Mark was a sergeant, and Overstreet was a staff sergeant at the time.

Now that I have went back to think about this, I either met SgtMaj Sommers twice or met both him and SgtMaj Overstreet. I can't believe that I forgot the SgtMaj visited us and Marine Detachment, Ft Leonard Wood, MO when I was there. Just can't remember exactly when or which one...It may have been SgtMaj Overstreet shortly after he became SgtMaj of the Marine Corps. If so, I join you Shaffer in having met them both. I haven't had dinner with them though...

I've met SgtMaj Estrada, and have had the pleasure of meeting 3 different Commandants. Gen. Mundy, Gen. Hagee, and Gen. Conway.

I worked on the Drill Field with little dave, E Co. 2nd Bn. I fished with him, or rather he fished with me, I had the boat. He was competitive as hell and hated to loose. Had to get up early to beat him and I did on many occasions. We would put on a show at drill competition. Drill Instructors from all three battalions would be there to watch. Bud of mine and his at the time found where he and Eyvette hung their hats after retirement, some where in texas. Holder sent him and my e-mail's to him, never heard back. Might just tell you something, huh?

I had worked with the former Sgt.Maj Marine Corps, SgtMaj. Estrada, at Andrews AFB. We were both in VMFA-321 and I was a structual mech and he was hyd shop. I didn't know him well and he left soon after I got there to go to the drill field at Parris Island. He was a SSgt. at the time I think? This was in 1981.

He would come back from time to time to say hey to everyone...of course no one had any idea that he would eventually become SgtMajor of the Marine Corps...crazy.
