Are pullups best done every day or every other day?

Depends on what program you are doing.

It's all based on your person.
I myself find it best to give a rest day between. In MOS school they made us do like 4 max sets a day, every day. I actually decreased in pullups. But when we took Christmas break and I didn't do some for a week, I actually came back doing a few more.
When I do pullups, I usually start out with a max set, then do a few pyramids and maybe as many pullups with a weightbelt on (25 lbs) and finish with a final max set. My back the next day will be sore and tight, but I usually can do one or two more the next workout day.
Find a routine that works good for you and stick with it for a while, just make sure to switch it up every once in a while so your body does not become use to one program only.

I have been using Recon Ron, and been doing them every day. Progress has been real slow, and I have a feeling that I may not be getting the best results because of it.

I skip a day in between...
and sometimes, you might want to put a pig rock in a pack and do 10 with some weight...
Pig Rock- Noun- Term for a sand bag (35 lbs or more) that is placed in a trash bag and wrapped in 100 mph tape. it makes a compact ball of heaviness that makes a grunt smile...
