I know it's a long way off and I need to get through boot camp before I even think about this but I was wondering if any Marines from the airwing or had airwing mos's could shed some light on what a typical day-to-day is in Iraq. My mos is avionics so I was curious as to what I might be doing if I was deployed there. Any help is most appreciated, thank you.

Cross that bridge when you get to it. It depends on what the need of the Corps is at the time. I talked to some WMs a while back that had been pulled out of their MOS and sent over there to pull MP duty, Reservists have been put on AD........................you just never know from day to day what will happen - you just have to be able to change pace and go the other direction when told to do so. AND be quick about it.

If you're avionics, then you will likely be fixing the electronics components of aircraft, either on the flight line, in a hangar, back in the shop, or all of the above.

Other than that, who knows what else could happen day to day. Like M84 said, you could be working checkpoints, convoy security, who knows.

Remember the unofficial motto of the Corps: Semper Gumby.

Thanks for the help. I'm flexible to whatever the Corps would put me at. Just wanted some insight. Thanks.

HAHAH well for avionics you will be sitting playing magic and D&D in the shop all day and for the most part the two shops that are out all day long is ordnance and powerline.

Like everyone says. Be flexible. You will rarely leave the base unless you are on escort duty or something. The majority of the time you will be on base fixing electronics. There are a lot of stuff that doesnt hold up well in the desert. You will be working out of what they call vans. It is a small mobile shop that has everything you need to fix electronics and test them.

I agree with Killerinstinct! I worked Powerline during the first Persian Excursion in '90-'91,....and pulling guard duty!
