jetdawgg- Are you insinuating that our war for independence should not have been fought? Should we have let the Barbary pirates run rough-shod over us, or just looked the other way when Britain commandeered our sailors on the high seas? Maybe it would have been okay to let the Confederate States secede from the Union, and in doing so, keep alive the horrible institution of slavery. How would that be jet? I'm sure the Kaiser would have been thrilled, had America not interviened in the Great War of '14-'18.
And of course, Hitler would have danced an "extra little jig" had America remained strictly isolationist. Ya know, no Lend Lease. No Operation Torch.
No D-Day. That would have simplified things. All of Europe could now be speaking the same language...German. And don't even get me started on the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere. Try to imagine "Crocodile Dundee" speaking Japanese...bowing to the Emperor. And hey, if the Communists wanted to overtake South Korea, and completely do away with the freedoms the south had become accustomed to...why should we care? Then, there's our old buddies, Ho Chi Minh and Nuygen Giap. Nice folks, huh? So they murdered thousands of teachers, clergy, dissidents, etc. No big deal, right?
And let's not forget "Mr. Wonderful", Saddam Hussein.
But then again, maybe we should have just stuck our heads in the sand like an ostrich, and let the world crumble around us. That woulda been good, right?

...the role of the military is to fight and win war and, therefore, prevent war from happening in the first place.

I get from this scripting that our foreign policy is in need of an upgrade.

This perception is not from me. I did not take the survey. It was sent to me from abroad. The current policy of bang the war drum has isolated the US and put us in a position where we are the same as Yemen and Iran.

Even Vietnam is number 35.

To consider the American Revolution and other wars is not a good comparison for this link:

The Economist Intelligence Unit measured countries' peacefulness based
on wide range of indicators - 24 in all - including ease of access to
"weapons of minor destruction" (guns, small explosives), military
expenditure, local corruption, and the level of respect for human rights.
After compiling the Index, the researchers examined it for patterns in
order to identify the "drivers" that make for peaceful societies. They
found that peaceful countries often shared high levels of democracy and
transparency of government, education and material well-being. While the
U.S. possesses many of these characteristics, its ranking was brought down
by its engagement in warfare and external conflict, as well as high levels
of incarceration and homicide. The U.S.'s rank also suffered due to the
large share of military expenditure from its GDP, attributed to its status
as one of the world's military-diplomatic powers.</pre>

Norway...who, btw after getting this 'most peaceful' nation thing, gave 10 million to the PLO in funding. The day after, matter of fact.

The "Economist Intelligence Unit". Sounds like a leftover Soviet outfit to me.

Color me......unimpressed.

Sgt Leprechaun - us great minds think alike HE HE!!!!!
It is hard as hell to be in the ****ing top ten LOVING LIST when you are the World's Police Force!!!!!!! I say GREAT that we are among the LEAST peaceful in the World because I am sick to death of the PC ****heads and their ****ing sensitive feelings. The only ones *****ing about it are the pickco leftists and their crowd!!!!!!! What the **** do they know????????
A good foreign policy would start with - cancelling ALL FOREIGN AID - GETTING RID OF THE IMPOTENT UNITED NATIONS AND ALL THE ****HEADS ON VACATION HERE FROM ALL THE NATIONS THAT HATE THE U. S. - AND WE COULD SEE HOW THE PC WORLD WOULD SURVIVE!!!!!

:) Thanks!

Which brings to mind a couple of quotes that pertain to this:

"The mostly safe suburban lifestyle of Volvos, NPR, and Trader Joes is an anomaly. Bought by time and space away from poor people and minorities and policed by a thin line of professional police officers. It’s very fragile, unlikely to last (we are running out of space) and not the experience of most people who live with violence every day."
Libertas poster

"The capture and release of the British hostages illustrate once again the fatuousness of the "international community" and its great institutions. You want your people back? Go to the European Union and get stiffed. Go to the Security Council and get a statement that refuses even to "deplore" this act of piracy. (You settle for a humiliating expression of "grave concern.") Then turn to the despised Americans. They'll deal some cards and bail you out."

There is a UN due top the fact that without it, all of the smaller nations in the world would not have a voice. As it is, they don't have much of one with it.:usmc:

...and they rate a voice......WHY again?

Quite frankly, I could give a rip about what "The Gambia" or Upper Volta has to say.

Nor could 90 percent of most other Amurkans.

The UN is merely a place where all these little two bit goatherd countries can come together and whine about how evil Amurka is while suckin down expensive meals and living off Unka Sams tit.

I ain't buyin it.

Harsh? Sure. Cold? Maybe. But, it's the facts of life.

Wow! China even beat us out! Hmmm... Looking at the countries at the top of the list, did the researchers take into account the factors such as the diversity of the population (last I checked, Norway's population was pretty pale and religiously christian), the birth to death ratio, type of government (when was the last time China actually voted something else besides socialist/maoist/communist? Also the size of the country? Most of those countries barely make a speck on the world map as it is in regards to size and population. Also, did they forget that the US expends more money propping up these third world countries so that can maintain that peace?

I guess it's typical of most socialists, they bad mouth the capitalist system until they need their butts pulled from the fire.

Oh well... It's hard to be humble when you are the greatest nation on earth anyway...

This posturing is why other countries have a serious issue with the USA and now are undertaking measures to change this. Measures that are very harmful to USA countryman that don't have that type of thought.

Ah, so I'm supposed to give a rip about Lower Volta and whatnot?

Why?

What, exactly, have they done for me, lately?

Sorry, not buyin it. And, the line of thought that I should buy it is more of the typical left wing 'koombayaaa' nonsense.

Note that I did not advocate bombing them back to the stoneage, raping the women, pillaging, ect. I just don't think I should be subsidizing them, or anything else. Not my concern or my issue. The 'measures' they are undertaking are typically that of the playground bully with a big rock taking out the big kid when he's not looking.

What the bully never realizes is after the kid gets up, he gets thrashed, rightfully so. That is what's going to happen with the little goatherd countries if they bash us with the rock. Or, at least, their gummints. If they would spend more time taking care of their populace, and less at the UN or on palaces and big cars, there would be less hate and discontent.

I, like many of us here, have been to plenty of the 'under developed' countries of the world. Mostly, they'd be just as happy if we LEFT THEM ALONE.

Best thing the U. S. could do is kick ALL THE UN OCCUPANTS out of here and start selling condos where the UN used to be!!!!!!!!!!!!! What has the UN done here lately of any consequence - NOT ONE ****ING THING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BUT we have to house these idiots and take care of their ****ing parking tickets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At the super-market this afternoon at the free coffee scuttlebutt I bumped into a Polish born now American citizen. He escaped from Communist Poland in 1956 and came to America. Not only did he tell me he is a doctor, I heard people greet him with the doctor title.

We were joking around about the free coffee and I told him. "I love this country" (free coffee in stores, etc.).

During our conversation I told him my mother was Polish and that I was a former Marine, Cuba-Vietnam.

He turned the subject to how do I like the war in Iraq ? I told him I think Bush should be impeached and in my opinion a war criminal. I guess I surprised him, but he agreed whole heartedly, saying Bush is just like Saddam in his opinion.

He asked me to help him with a question of his. He was apprehensive that the Middle East Countries could blockade oil from the United States devastating our economy and maybe Bush sees no choice ?

I told him, "Most of that oil is used in Asia not America. Our enemies have to sell oil on the world market and we have to buy it. Artificial shortages can occur but markets are efficient. As distasteful as it is for the buyers and sellers, we need each other.
