Dear Gulf War Veteran:
My name is Miguel Sancho and I am a producer with CBS News. I am writing
because we are doing some research into a potential story about Desert Storm veterans who now have children serving in the curent Gulf crisis.
A few days ago one of our producers in Kuwait interviewed a young Marine
corporal who remembered his father writing him from the same location twelve years ago. His letter tried to explain what was happening, and why. That got us thinking that there are probably dozens, quite possibly hundreds, of fathers out there right now with kids preparing to fight Iraq again.
If you are such a parent, I would very much like to get in touch with you,
simply to hear your story in a confidential, not-for-broadcast conversation.
If, and only if, you are comfortable with the idea, we may want to interview
you on camera. I know that some of you may be hesitant, but rest assured
that we don't want to do anything that would cause any problems for you or
your children. Steve Robinson mentioned that since many of you are suffering from Gulf War Syndrome, you are concerned about how you
might be portrayed.
This is something I am happy to discuss with you. There are numerous options open to us, which I would be happy to discuss in the context
of a private conversation.
