Marine with Oregon roots killed in explosion in Iraq

War victim - The 21-year-old's father was a PCC instructor before moving to Florida A 21-year-old Marine corporal from Florida with ties to Oregon died this week in Iraq after an explosive device detonated in the road while he was nearby.

Cpl. Julian Woodall, who was raised in the Portland area until he was in his early teens, was on his second deployment in Anbar province in Iraq when he died Tuesday. He was with Battery L, Third Battalion, 10th Marine Regiment, based in Camp Lejeune, N.C. He joined the Marines in 2004.

Woodall is the 99th member of the military with ties to Oregon or southwest Washington to die in the war in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

He moved from the Portland area to Tallahassee, Fla., where he attended SAIL High School. He graduated in 2004 and married Melissa Robinson, who also is a graduate of SAIL.

His father, Jerry Woodall, was an engineering instructor at Portland Community College before moving to Florida nearly eight years ago.
