Beaufort Sailor Honored for His Role in Iraq

A Beaufort Sailor is being honored for his outstanding service while deployed in Iraq.

In a special ceremony today, Navy officials from our Washington DC awarded Petty Officer 1st Class Michael Mann with the Preventative Medicine Technician of the Year Award. A prestigious honor given for keeping his fellow marines and sailors in good health and preventing them from diseases while in Iraq.

"It's an advantage to the squadron and to the units to be able to home all this people there that they trained to have on deck," said HM1 Mann. "We're keeping everyone in the fight for the main reason and that's to win this war in Iraq and make it a better place for the Iraqi people."

Petty Officer Mann is currently serving with Marine Wing Support Squadron 273 at the Marine Corps Air Station in Beaufort.
