Wal-Mart funds Iraq care packages
By Journal staff

RAPID CITY — The manager of Rapid City’s Wal-Mart has contributed to a local Marine Corps organization’s fund for establishing care packages for Marines serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Wal-Mart manager Mark Haberman recently presented a $1,000 donation from the store’s foundation in Bentonville, Ark., to the Black Hills Detachment, Marine Corps League, according to a news release from the Black Hills Detachment.

Wal-Mart is a “staunch supporter” of all military branches and is proud to help the local Marines with the fund, Haberman said in the release.

The Black Hills Detachment sends about 8-10 boxes on a bi-monthly basis, the release said. Each box holds 15-20 pounds and contains various items such as snacks, toiletries, tooth brushes, playing cards and other items.

The Black Hills Detachment also encourages anyone with a relative or friend serving with the Marine Corps in Iraq or Afghanistan to send the person’s name, rank and Fleet Post Office address to the Black Hills Detachment, and the person will be added to the bi-monthly mailing list.

The address for the Black Hills Detachment is Marine Corps League, PO Box 913, Rapid City SD 57709. People can also call Art Jansen at 718-7995 or e-mail him at atj@rushmore.com to add someone to the list.
