A Marine's Experiences in Iraq: Author Provides Inside Look at Iraq in New Book
Thursday May 10, 11:53 am ET

MANTUA, Ohio, May 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Cpl. Matthew D. Wojtecki presents a moving and eye-opening account of the current war in Iraq in his new memoir, "Every Other Four: The Journal of Cpl. Matthew D. Wojtecki, Weapons Company 3rd Battalion 25th Marines, Mobile Assault Team Eight" (now available through AuthorHouse).

Wojtecki served in the Akron, Ohio-based reservist battalion, Weapons Company 3/25. In January of 2005, the battalion was mobilized to support the fight against terrorism in Operation Iraqi Freedom III. Throughout his deployment, he consistently kept a detailed record of his experiences in training and preparing for Iraq, as well as his station in Iraq's Al-Anbar Province.

The book relates Wojtecki's training experiences and his time in Las Vegas, when the marines were set free for three days before they were shipped off to war. "The one last chance to experience freedom, the open air and one of many magnificent cities in America, the gambling and crowds Marines usually get themselves into and a back-of-the-mind thought that this might be the last three days (we) would ever spend in America again," he recalls.

While in Iraq, the Weapons Company 3/25 performed many great feats, but rarely received proper credit, according to Wojtecki. He takes readers through an operation southwest of Hit City that involved combing every inch of more than 50 miles of terrain to look for enemy caches, as well as operations near one of Saddam Hussein's key cities, Al-Qui'm, and the surrounding towns that harbored terrorists and gun runners.

Through his stories, Wojtecki highlights the human aspect of his experience through the friends and family in his life during that time. He reminisces about his friend, Cpl. Michael Lindemuth, who was killed in a mortar attack. "[He] always had a way of lightening up the mood with a cheesy joke or a sarcastic comment," he says. Wojtecki also explores his relationship with his fiancee, Angela Seigman, whom he had to leave behind in America, and his father's battle with terminal illness. "The book on some wavelength describes how powerful love can be and how it cannot be separated, even in war," he writes.

Accompanied by more than 40 photographs that further enhance the story, Wojtecki successfully brings readers a new perspective on combat life during this war. "[The book] has not been cut, censored or run through by anyone," he says. "It is a real-life account of my experiences in training and in combat."

Wojtecki holds a BBA in finance from Kent State University and is currently pursuing an MBA in finance. He plans to marry his fiancee, Angela, in July of 2007. "Every Other Four" is his first published book.
