NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A dozen Marines were hard at work Wednesday morning, loading up medical supplies and equipment to be shipped to Iraq.

Everything that is being shipped to the Middle East has been donated by hospitals or medical vendors and is expected to assist 18,000 Iraqis.

Some of the materials include ACE bandages, exam tables and X-ray machines, adding up to about $500,000 worth of supplies. All of the donations have been checked out by medical experts.

Once filled, the container will be transported by train to Houston and then to Iraq. It is expected to be delivered in three weeks.

The effort is part of an initiative from the nonprofit groups Project Cure and Improve Health Care Systems for Iraq.

This is the first time Project Cure has shipped supplies to Iraq. The group has sent donations to 105 countries.
