Wounded combat veterans who are federal employees would get special treatment from the government’s leave-sharing plan under a bill introduced by Rep. Walter Jones, R-N.C.

“Our wounded warriors have already made a tremendous sacrifice for this nation. This legislation would help ensure that wounded veterans who are federal employees, and their families, are not punished for their heroic sacrifice,” Jones said.

Jones, a member of the House Armed Services Committee, wants wounded war veterans to be exempt from a stipulation in the leave-sharing program that requires employees to exhaust all of their personal time off, both annual leave and sick leave, before they can use any leave donated by other federal workers.

The result would be that wounded war veterans could get time off and still have their own leave to use for vacation.

Jones said the special treatment outlined under his bill, HR 2200, would allow wounded veterans to use donated leave for medical appointments and treatment while still being able to take vacation.

“The brave men and women in uniform who return from combat with severe injuries deserve our nation’s support,” Jones said in a statement. “They are there fighting for us on the battlefields when our nation is at war, and we must be there for them when they find themselves in difficult times as a result of their bravery.”
