Your becoming another Can't Wait to Sign.
It dosen't matter what anyone else on these forums say. You will get negaitivty for anything you do. Just take with a grain of salt and move the **** forward. MP are really needed in every service and people won't hate you if your an MP unless your a complete total ass.
It's not up to them on what you want, you chose to serve in the Corps, do it in what you like.

I'll bet all of the negative responses came from people who got tickets from MPs. :marine:
Who cares what others say. Do what YOU want. I loved MP work. The only way you can find out of you love it is to do it.

Yeah, a few people will get their panties in a wad because they recieved a traffic citation. Big deal.
The ones i busted for spousal or child abuse, driving while intoxicated, drug possession etc, I dont give a rats a$$ what they thought of me.
The ones that have a problem with military law enforcement are the same ones that have/had a problem with civilian law enforcement.
If you want a MOS where you can be popular, the 5800 field is not for you.

I never had a problem with MPs. I tell people not to do it because usually guarding a gate isn't what they're wanting to do. I also know of some police departments that will NOT hire a former MP. They do things differently and don't want that mindset.

I never had a problem with an MP - I always got waved through the gate while intoxicated!

Everyone starts at the bottom and gate work sometimes is just that. When I was at Lejuene and Pendleton, gate duty was a seperate section. Some guys volunteered to work gate section, others just took their turn in the barrel. A lot of FAPs went to gate section.
There can be some interesting action on the gates though. Remember, everything and everyone coming aboard goes through a gate (usually). I've had some interesting brawls and arrests at gates.
A few nice leg shots too (right, Marine 84?). ;)
I've never known of a PD that rejects an applicant based on prior experience as an MP. In fact, I've always seen it viewed as a plus. It was a plus with me when I sat hiring boards.
Admittedly, new officers with MP experience (especially Marines) sometimes have to be coached differently when new on the job. As I said in another post, police work in the military tends to be a bit more black and white, while civilian policing has much more grey area. The Marine Corps tends to be more black and white than the other services too. Things usually work out just fine.
Also, larger PDs often have less fun details similar to gate duty too. Just the way it goes in the cop world.

I've got news for you, you've chosen a life that's going to get a lot of negative replies from ignorant people, simply because you're in the military. You wouldn't change your mind over what they say, why would this be any different? Make up your own damn mind and live with your decision, so you won't be spending your enlistment wondering, "what if".

I know of two local agencies that will do everything they can to avoid hiring MPs. It probably depends who is sitting on the boards and what background they have. I am sure there are more departments that will hire you because of being an MP than would avoid doing so. But, it is something to think about.

And, that, just about sums it all up.
As am MP in Iraq what would your daily duties usually be? Just curious.
Also. How hard is it to become a Working Dog Handler?

Haven't you been reading about MP's in Iraq???
They provide convoy security.
They setup roadblocks.
They provide secrutiy for FOB, Air Bases
They sweep for IEDs
They train the Iraqi MPs.
When the grunts move in, they set up checkpoints to make sure the enemy dosen't slip away.
All these were told to me by another recruiter who was in Iraq before going on recruiting duty.

Or a "sweetie" or "honey" mixed with this Southern accent got 'em every time. I got 2 sobriety tests on base in Iwakuni - passed the first one cause he didn't see me mess up with the finger counting thing (he was looking at my ID) - passed the 2nd one because I guess he liked what I had on when he asked me to get out of the car and do the 10 steps forward/about face/10 steps back in his direction - ya'll ever tried to do that $h!t in heels?????
Reason #221 & 222 why I'm PROUD to be a WM. :p :usmc: :flag:

Do what's RIGHT for YOU, not us, or somebody else. Otherwise, you'll always be living for somebody else. And be miserable.

Hey if they haven't been an mp then you shouldn't listen to them because they have no clue of what its like...if thats what you want to do then do it....i have plenty of Marine friends that were mps and they loved it so if its what you want to do then do it you have to live with the decision don't let someone else influence that decision....
Drill Instructors hate MP's, if your an MP the 3 months you spend at boot camp will be far worse than the average recruit, but it'll just result in you being a better Marine on graduation day.
If you want to be an MP, go for it and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. There's nothing wrong with being an MP, it's just a lot of Marines get busted for underage drinking and trash like that and they blame it on the MP's rather than taking responsibility for themselves.
