This last weekend there was a competition between the entire 8th Recruiting District, and the Colorado Springs RSS (The pool I'm in) won the Gung Ho award which was given by DI's for being the best pool in regards to teamwork and the like. It feels pretty good to have Drill Instructors give us that honor. Just thought I'd share the story.
Well, no offense, but share the STORY then. I mean I don't know about anyone else, but I would like to hear a little more about it like what you did to earn it how close it was that kind of stuff.

Yeah, I'm sorry, I'll actually tell the story. We all went to the recruiter's office about 1500 on Friday and got on a bus to Ft. Carson. When we got there a D.I. came on the bus and started screaming at us to get off his bus and all that. So we get out, get in a line and sign in. Then we got in formation and did some PT for a while. Later on we had dinner(an MRE), and hit the rack at about 2200. Come 0500 the D.I's came in with the Sgt. Major and did the whole yell and scream and kick your trash around, then the competition began. There was about 8 or 9 other pools competing, and the first event was the IST. We all did pull-ups and crunches, then got into formation and double-timed it over to a hill, where we did the mile and a half run. After that was a drill competition and a relay race. We tied for first on the drill, but unfortunately lost the relay.(which needless to say Master Sergeant made us pay for.) Then we totally annihilated the tug of war event, and came back to the gym for the announcement of the winners. Now the entire time our pool was the only ones shouting to cheer on our teammates and the squad leaders and the guide actually took responsibility. So the Major gave out the awards and when it came to the first place award, every one of us was expecting to win. When the Major announced the first place went to another RSS, Master Sergeant Martinez gave all of us the 'You will never see the light of day I'm gonna thrash you so much' look, and we all braced ourselves for the coming punishment. But then the Sergeant Major pulled out a log with the words 'Gung Ho' written on it. He said the Gung Ho award would go to the RSS that exhibited the most teamwork, speed, and intensity irregardless of the actual events. He also said the Drill Instructors from Parris Island and San Diego that came to the event would decide the winners. Then a scowling Gunnery Sergeant D.I. stepped up. This was the man who had berated and screamed at all of us for the past 36 hours. And when he announced that the award went to RSS Colorado Springs, that was the best feeling in the world. To have him give us that award, made all the sweat and pain worth it. I can only imagine what getting that Eagle, Globe, and Anchor must feel like. I can't wait.
