Marine's First Job in Iraq--Stay Alive

Last Update: May 7, 2007 7:38 AM

(Hilton, N.Y.) -- As a combat photographer, Sergeant Brian Henner, 22, of Hilton, saw the Iraq war through different eyes.

He showed off many of the compelling and beautiful pictures he took at a family party held in his honor on Sunday.

Henner said while in Iraq, he had two jobs to do: stay alive and take pictures.

He did well on the first task, despite being one close call when a bullet grazed his helmet.

But, he said he wanted his pictures to show there are many good things happening in Iraq.

"I see a lot of bright spots over there that you don’t see on the news. Positive things like a lot of schools being built, some towns that were bad that are safe now…" he said.

Henner said he has more photos of Marines handing out candy to Iraqi children than he does of the marines firing their weapons.
