What ever happened the Pledge of Allegiance. I remeber when I was younger, it was an everyday thing at school. I've been out of high school since 04. I remeber the last three schools I went to never had the Pledge of Allegiance.
Does your school still participate in this tradition?

I only remember doing the Pledge in grade school, I don't think I did it once in junior or senior high school, and I attend junior and most of senior high on an Air Force base.

People we still do that here in central Utah. We also at the start of any school event. This is not a none domanational prayer. We do have more than just Mormons here and we get along just fine. Tree huggers and anti gunners are not welcome here and we let them know it. I can strap on my shoulder holster and 45 ACP 19911-A1 and were it anyplace I go.
We have the Pledge and then a "moment of silence" every day. People get in serious trouble if they sit during the Pledge in my high school.

There too much liberal anti-Americans/war people around my place. They all use the "under God" to make a fuss over its freedom of religion ect, they shouldnt be forced to say it and ect. Disgusting.

I don't practice any religion either and don't care if anyone else does. If you do, great, if you don't, great. I don't mind saying "under God," I'm not gonna be nit-picky and whine about saying those words even though I'm not a christian. It's only two words, it doesn't cost me anything to say them, my pride and self indentity aren't hurt in anyway, so what does it matter? And I don't think anyone should give him hell because he doesn't believe in God and doesn't say those words, that's what this country is all about! Freedom to practice one's own beliefs, and if it offends someone else then they just need to man-up and deal with it.

My school does...every morning we have a moment of silence followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Every school should have it, I believe.

Every morning at the beginning of my second class our school recites the Pledge. Directly after that we stand for a moment of silence to respect those we have have lost and those who have/and are sacrificing. It me pretty hard because my father was there on 9/11.

That is the same for me. My school did the pledge for the past 3 yrs of highschool at the beggining of 1st hr, but didn't do it this year. I remember last year there were only about 3 people that stood up for the pledge in each class room, class sizes are about 30 kids, 3/30 in each class. It irritates me a lot but it is their choice not to stand. What made me mad was when they talked during it, its like "I dont care if you dont agree with the government and the war, but at least show respect for those that have died for your freedoms, and continue to do so, for you and others." A lot of people are ignorant to what the pledge really means. It gets worse when they use the 1st amendment in their defence when you tell them to shut up during the pledge. Complete ignorance right there, I take what we have forgranted at times too, but a majority of the time I try to live with all the values a Marine has with in him/her.:iwo:

Well I go to a private school and we have morning announcements on the intercom and we always say the pledge. It's not really strict about saying it or not, but there's only a few kids who just stand there just because they're lazy. But ya the "under God" part is basically my favorite part of the pledge. I think it's kind of rude to just not say parts of the America's pledge. So when it comes to the oath of enlistment are you just not going to say the "so help me God".
"I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God."

We still say it and we have a moment of silence. It depends on the teachers class that you are in on if they make you say it or not. I stand anyway and usuall someone else stands up after me and it creates a domino effect with the exception of a few ppl.

Is it pathetic that I've never even heard of this "moment of silence" thing. Like I know what it is because it's done for important things like when we visited ground zero, but what is this doing it every morning thing? Maybe since we're a private school instead of doing a moment of silence we do the praying over the intercom in place of that? I dunnoo...

In my school it comes directly after the Pledge. We do it for only a very brief period of time since my school wants us to get to classes... But it is a time when everyone stands in silence to reflect on how fortunate we are as citizens, and the sacrifices that were made to make it this way. If there is school during 9/11 we stand for an exceptionally longer time because many of us have been directly, or have had relatives/friends/etc affected.

The Pledge of Allegience is still done here at my school, now whether or not my class mates take it seriously is another matter BUT THEY DO SAY IT even though they screw off during it. Then we only have a moment of silence when its Veterens Day or any other day along those lines.

It's pretty moto to hear the whole school do the pledge together on Monday morning. Our (thezero and I) school has a meeting in the gym every Monday Morning, and before anything happens, everyone does the pledge, very moto.

The "under god" part was added to the pledge during the red scare to catch the "godless commies". Maybe we got a few of those here on leatherneck? ;) haha Just kidding worship whatever you want or nothing at all that is your right.

All of you that posted and have those around you not showing the proper respect, ignore them. You can't help the helpless and there is no need to get yourselves in trouble for causing a ruckus by chastising or trying to convince them. A lot of my generation are the same way, most of them probably hippies, additionally you really want to get aggravated, go to a parade and watch how many people pay the proper respect to our flag as it comes down the parade route. Most idiots (lack of better upbringing) will turn their back, keep talking, stay seated even though they aren't diabled, etc. I've seen disabled vets standing while able bodied jerks don't.
All of you just keep setting the example by showing the proper respect!!
