Im about 6'4''-6'5''...I weigh around 133 pounds. I obviously have a high metabolism; How can I gain weight to suit the requirements for bootcamp, and still be able to do workouts at the same time without losing alot of weight?

You need to consume mass amounts of protein! Bars, Shakes, whatever you have to do. Start eating, eating, and eating!

WRONG! He doesn't want his body to go down the Sh*ithole! You can gain mass while exercising just fine!

You wanna gain weight, eat a ton of peanut butter sandwiches after you work out. It worked for a friend of mine. They have a good amount of calories so you will gain weight, and they are cheaper then protein bars and shakes. And S7R1D3R, first you need to fill out your profile its a rule, second smartas* answers really dont help anyone.

build muscle, it weighs more than fat

I might be having a brain fart because I just woke up... but I can't figure out how muscle weights more than fat. 5 pounds of muscle weights more than 5 pounds of fat?

Im in the same boat as you. When I depped in I was 130lbs and 6'1", shipped to bootcamp at 155lbs and graduated at 145lbs. Here I am 10 months later and still weigh only about 148-150. Ive got the same problem, having a fast metabolism. I put the 25 lbs on before boot camp in 10 months by drinking and eating all that protein ****. After bootcamp I was going to start it again to gain back the 10 lbs I had before but, I realized for the last 3 months I had been eating right and exercising regularly, the two biggest things you do to control you weight. I figured that since thats what I was supposed to be doing, thats where my body was supposed to be. Yeah it may suck that your skinny as a mo-fo but thats whats healthy for you.

What weighs more, 100lbs of feathers or 100lbs of bricks? That tis the question!?!

Muscle cells are much more denser than fat cells. That is why muscle weighs more!

Calories are the only way you're going to gain weight. You can lift, you can stop working out, doesn't matter. To get bigger you have to consume more calories than you burn. You need to be eating all the time.

Smart ass ;)

Did you google that? I always heard people say muscle weights more than fat but never asked how/why. My dumbass never knew muscle was denser than fat. Should've paid attention in health class :nerd:

Thanks PFC Jimmy, I just forgot to proof read when I was trying to seem intelligent. I hate when that happens!

Yes Ruff, I'm naturally a smart ass! Just finished a semester of college health and fitness! It was very informative!

Think about it, muscle is hard, fat is not. Which do you think weighs more?

I honestly would have assumed that every person over the age of 8 would know that muscle is more dense, and thus weights more per given volume than fat. Seems like you can't turn on the TV without someone talking about it.

Just to throw it out there, I was 6'4" 147lbs in July '06 when I depped in.

Doing no "heavy" lifting, just pushups, pullups, leg lifts, crunches, etc basically the Marine Corps Daily 7, I am now at 175lbs 9 months later. I didn't even really change my eating habits either, although I've always eaten 2500+ calories a day, so if you've always eaten little, then you need to bump it up.

I know 30 lbs doesn't seem like much over 9 months, that's only +~3.1 lbs a month, but what's interesting to note is that my body fat percentage dropped 12%, from 20% to 8%...and I still gained 30 lbs. (And yes, you have to literally have no muscle at all to be 6'4" 147lbs, and have 20% body fat :))

I actually have arms...and abs, and definition. No, I'm not "big", but I'm not a stick. Its nice.

My goal is 180 before I leave in early June.

Eat at least 2 Dbl Cheese burgers a large order of fries and sweet tea twice a day and in a month you can gain 15lbs.

Trust me I've been there, got up to 310 until SSgt. Alford set me straight.

Dude,
I'm telling you, guys with fast metabolisms will gobble that stuff up, the only thing eating a bunch of mcdonalds is going to do to anyone like him or I is make us sick, raise our cholesterol, and clog our arteries.

How many pushups can you do without stopping?

two hundred thirty seven thousand. in 20 years. Oh, in one set? havent tried for a long time. Another thing I just realized is that my retarded thumb was hitting the wrong key: im 5'4''. not 6. LMAO what a shocker; but that should not change the course of the discussion, since the main issue is still my fast metabolism. I was also wondering: today at the gym i said to my bro: dude, my goal is to eventually get these arms skin tight in this PT shirt. he told me its going to take 15 years lmao. in other words, its OK if the PT shirt you get isnt skin-tight, right? like the sleeves dont have to be snug around your arms? because I dont know how in the hell I am going to get my arms that big- meeting physical requirements, yes. enlarging arms to behemothly sized howitzers conforming to the outline of my sleeves: aw HELL naw.

Eat a bunch of meat, potatos and vitamin D milk. And eat all the things that give you vitamins. And start lifting weights, and make sure you have a spotter so you don't get hurt. Hell buy that Arnold Schwarzenegger weight lifting book, there are all kinds of lifting routines for different body types and and nutrition and diet info in that book.

Given the same volume of material, the bricks would have more mass/weight than the feathers would.

Ding Ding Ding...I was just waiting for someone to bring this aspect up...

I think the obvious is that if you want to gain weight as I have been doing as well (6'1" 160) your are wanting to gain lean muscle mass. This will help you rather than fat, which will make all workouts including pushups, crunches, pullups, and especially running more difficult...period.

When I started working out I weighed something like 235 or so and I was really only doing weights and very little cardio and things of that sort and didn't see much loss in weight. Then I started running more and saw my biggest change, I now weigh 215 and my arms, shoulders, calves, etc have gotten bigger and have more definition than ever before. As far as protein is concerned, chicken and steak are really good sources.

Do keep in mind that muscles dictates your metabolism. If the problem is a speedy metabolism, having more muscle is just going to make you burn more Calories. Listen to E4B, and start taking in more calories. Food that have high calories dont necessary have to be junk food. Dark chocolate has high calories, while at the same time its full of antioxidents. Drink juice. OJ and apple juice have alot of calories. Substitute some water you drink with these juices.

Soda would help as well. But they can make you feel like **** if you don't drink them often.

Famed author and Marine William Manchester related this story about joining the Corps.
When he attempted to enlist in the Marine Corps after Pearl Harbor, he was 3 lbs. underweight. His recruiter gave him fifty cents, told him to go buy a big bunch of bananas, and eat all of them. The recruiter then weighed Manchester. He was good to go. Then, the recruiter told him, "You're gonna be real sick here in just a little bit. Just keep throwin' up 'til you have a brown hairy circle in your mouth. Don't spit that out. That's your a$$hole !":D

Don't drink soda before you work out tho, it will dehydrate you real quick.
