Troop Care Packages

Most would agree, putting your life on the line for your country is worthy of respect, and certainly a thank you. Well, imagine how a local family feels after trying to gather donations to send to Marines in Iraq and no one showed up.

The Vernon family has a 20-year-old son, Jared, who's stationed in Ramadi, Iraq. On Sunday, they held a donation drive so they could put together care packages for their son and other members of the Echo Company. FOX 6 even promoted it on our list of 'six things to do today' on the WakeUp News. But after about four hours of waiting, no one had stopped by with any items to donate.

The Vernon family says they are disappointed, but they want to remind people not to forget about our men and women overseas.

Jay Vernon who is Jared’s step-dad says, "They're in something that's dangerous, in harm's way every moment of every day. You don't drive down the street five miles an hour for nothing. You're being alert and looking for things that could explode in front of you, under your vehicle."

The Vernon's held a similar drive a few months ago and gathered over a thousand pounds worth of items.
