Capt. Matthew Tracy, with Hawaii-based 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marines, has been named the recipient of the 2006 Leftwich Trophy for Outstanding Leadership, according to a Corps-wide message released Thursday.

First awarded in June 1979 to Capt. Clyde Brinkley Jr., the Leftwich Trophy recognizes active-duty captains in the ground combat-arms community holding company or battery command who “clearly and dramatically demonstrate the ideals of courage, resourcefulness, perseverance and concern for the well-being of our Corps and its enlisted Marines,” according to the award’s criteria.

“All nominees had exemplary records, which indicated noteworthy leadership and command ability,” states AlMar 024/07. “As expected, the competition was exceptionally keen.”

The award is provided through a foundation established by H. Ross Perot, a Naval Academy roommate of Lt. Col. William Leftwich, for whom the trophy is named.
