Gifts welcome returning Marines

GRAND RAPIDS -- Some West Michigan Marines have a pleasant surprise waiting for them when the return home this weekend.
Thursday night Marine wives, mothers and girlfriends but together 175 gift bags filled with a variety of donated items totaling in the hundreds of dollars. The items include restaurant and grocery gift certificates, movie and museum passes and a free cross-lake ferry ride on the S.S. Badger.
"Despite how people feel and what side of the fence that they're on, West Michigan supports our troops. We love them and this is a small token of our appreciation," said Marine mother Kim de Bruin.
The bags will be presented to Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 24th Marines when they return home from a six-month tour in Iraq.
