Unit of Marines to return to Perrysburg Township base

Marines from a Perrysburg Township-based weapons company are scheduled to return to their home training center on Glenwood Road tomorrow after serving the last six months in Iraq.

Members of 1st Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division were activated June 1 and spent four months training at Camp Pendleton and Marine Corps Base 29 Palms, Calif., before being deployed to Iraq’s Anbar province.

They are now in California undergoing demobilization procedures that will be completed once they have returned to the Reserve Center, 28828 Glenwood Rd.

Meanwhile, about 330 members of the 180th Fighter Wing of the Ohio Air National Guard are heading to Iraq for 45 days.

A send-off, which is to include a speech by U.S. Rep. Paul Gillmor (R., Old Fort), is scheduled for 3:45 p.m. tomorrow at the base at Toledo Express Airport.
