Marine Corps Air Station's 63rd Birthday
Submitted by Stephanie Beecken on 25 April 2007 - 9:47pm.

Today is the Marine Corps Air Station New Rivers's 63rd birthday. For the Marines, it means more than just eating cake.

The cake cutting ceremony is a tradition in the Marine Corps for marking anniversary events.
In addition to the birthday celebration, the air station historical program is collecting wartime memorabilia.

They will collect anything from pictures to metals to maps.

The marines say the program is important to tell the history of the air station and to share their memories with future marines.

Lt. Col. U.S. Marine Corps, Travis Provost, says “what we have tried to do today is take a moment
to get everybody together, civilian marines, sailors everyone and allow them to participate in reflecting on history past and their future as well."

Items accepted for the historic program will be recorded and preserved at the Air Station.
For more information, call Staff Sergeant Amanda Robinson at (910) 449-5277.
