Some Arkansas Marines To Return For 2nd Iraq Tour

Some Arkansas Marines have been put on alert for their second tour of duty in Iraq.

Officials say India Company, Third Battalion, 23rd Marine Regiment will mobilize May 17th, with deployment to Iraq's Anbar province sometime in the fall. The battalion will be on active duty for a year, including four months of training at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

India Company and the rest of the Third Battalion last deployed in 2003, and returned home to Camp Pike in North Little Rock after seven months in Iraq. India Company is Arkansas' only Marine Reserve unit.

Officials say that about 30 Marines in India Company have already served in tour in Iraq.

The India Company has been mobilized as part of a plan to relieve active-duty units in Iraq. India Company was placed on alert in February.

The company will train at Camp Gruber in Oklahoma and at the Marine training center at Twentynine Palms, California.
