haha some ARMY recruiter attempted to talk me out of joining
the Marines the other day, he said..."The Marine Corps is only about one thing, and one
thing only! and thats maintaining an image, and theyll do any thing to keep that image!...If
u want oppurtunity join the Army!"(ARMY recruiter's words)
At MEPS today I heard a Liason officer (Why are they called officers when they're enlisted?) tell an Army recruit "Good job Private, you passed the physical. You're a soldier now, you made it."
Umm...wow. He doesn't have a broken leg, signed a paper, and has already rated being called a private and a soldier.

The Army isn't all bad, but I was completely turned off by listening to the recruiters talk about how much money they are going to give for 2 hours non stop.
The worst thing they said about the Marines was "yea of course they are the best at infantry, the Army would be too if that was all we did."
But that also means they are saying the Marines have the best infantry.

Damn right. Riflemen first, everything else is secondary.
You want more money, join the Army.
You want to join a brotherhood of honor, courage, and commitment, where the Man next to you will cover your six and you'll cover his. That charges into battle with great ferocity, join the Marines. It's what I've chosen.

Honestly, I've messed with more than a few recruiters in my day. The best was a Marine recruiter that cornered me when I was home on terminal leave. I couldn't resist, I went through his pitch, went to the office, talked to him for about an hour, watched a video, and then he asked if I was ready to go to MEPS and enlist. I looked at him, smiled, and said I didn't think so. I then decided it would be a good idea to show him my ID. I was smiling, he was not. The SSgt just about exploded. Funny how I managed to end up on my face pushing when I was on terminal leave. It was well worth it though.
But, now I regret doing that- and all the times I messed with other recruiters. They do have a job to do, and it is an important job. If the recruiters don't get their mission accomplished, we don't have new people in our military. As much as we like to talk bad about the other branches, we do need them as well. Marines win battles, not wars.

When I was at MEPS, I was sitting there next to the MC office with my sticker on my shirt that said U.S. Marine Corps and this Army Rec came and sat next to me and asked me if I ever thought about joining the Army. I looked at him like he was an idiot and I told him, "Yeah, I thought about it. Then I came to my senses."
I was under the assumption that recruiting at MEPS was NOT ALLOWED. I guess they didn't care.
Another story, I had been getting army recruiting letters in the mail. I guess they don't know I was DQ'd from the MC. Anyways, when I got sick of them messaging me I took a picture of my shirt that has an EGA on it and I wrote a note and said, "If you can help me attain this, let me know. If you can't. Stop mailing me. Have a nice day." No more mail from them yet.

Are you kidding me...? My recruiter told me if they want to talk to you, talk... But at the end let them know you already signed.. It doesn't hurt to talk. This is coming from a SSgt.
Don't tell me im being inconsiderate, and a smartass... They asked me to sit down and talk, i didnt just go up to him saying "hey i want to join..." they pull me out of class. Plus my main class's are 2nd and 7th period, I dont have class's inbetween. And in the mose main class's we dont do anything. I dont think i have done anywork yet...

Today was the battalion's graduation for my brother at Ft. Benning.
While waiting for him to be debriefed, his Drill Sergeant came up to me and said. "WHY DIDN'T YOU JOIN THE ARMY LIKE YOUR BROTHER!?!?!"
He was yelling, breath smelled and he had on sun glasses, but I kept my coo.
"DRILL SERGEANT, MY BROTHER PRESSED THE EASY BUTTON!!!!"
He cracked a smile and continued on.
"WHAT MAKES YOU THINK THAT YOU CAN PASS BOOT CAMP JOHNSON????!?!?"
"SIR, IF I FAIL MCRT, THEN YOU SHOULD SEE ME SOME TIME SOON!"
"GOOD, I HOPE YOU FAIL, THEN YOU AND I CAN HAVE SOME FUN!!!!"
"FUN!! THEN ITS A DATE THEN DRILL SERGEANT!"
"JOHNSON YOUR A SMART KID!"
"A SMART-ASS KID DRILL SERGEANT!"
"GET THE **** AWAY FROM MY PLATOON YOU POS!"
It was all a show for the platoon but after everyone left he came up to me later and wished me good luck and told me to keep at it. From what I've seen at Ft. Benning, the Army can hold its own as well.

Then when I signed the papers for USMC the exact day I was at MEPS I got a call from the army "Yeah Matt This is Seargent (name?) withe U.S. Army just looking at your ASVAB scores you did very well...I think me and you should have a talk in my office about your career goals." haha I was just like "sorry too late" and deleted the message

Quick story about "recruiters"....
Years ago I contacted recruiters from all five branches of the service, requesting coffee mugs, to give to veterans at a "Soldier's and Sailor's Home." I had done my homework, and only requested enough for the vets at this home.
About two hours after I called the Marine recruiter, he came to my place of work and dropped off 6 coffee mugs, 6 bumper stickers, 6 "MARINE" tee shirts, and 6 posters of the Marine Corps Memorial with the Commandant's Own posed in front of the Iwo Jima statue.
The next day, the Navy recruiter called and said I could pick up the 8 mugs I requested, at his office. I picked them up, and thanked him.
Later that afternoon, the Army recruiter called and said he had 9 of the 12 I had requested. Then he called me right back, and said a recruiter from another town would provide the other 3. Those twelve I picked up that weekend.
The nearest Coast Guard recruiter was almost 200 miles away, and he mailed the one mug I requested.
When I called the Air Force recruiter, he grilled me about who the mugs were for, when did I need them, why was I doing this, etc. I politely explained I needed 3 mugs before Christmas for these vets, etc. "Let me see what I can do." was his reply. Two weeks go by. I call him again. He says, "I have one mug here, but it's mine. I'm not sure if I can get any more. If I can, I'll call ya."
I got off the phone, looked up the number for my senior Senator. I called his office, and spoke to an aid, explaining the entire ordeal. Half an hour later,
Senator Alan Simpson called me at work, and assured me I would have those three mugs by the next morning. He was correct.
The Air Force Staff Sergeant stared "daggers" at me as he handed me the box of mugs. All he said, with a nasty tone of voice, was "Here's the mugs you asked for. Sorry it took so long." And he walked away.
Now, for the best part... The group I was with passed out all the mugs, we wished all the vets Merry Christmas, etc. Pretty soon, these six old men walked up to us in the "day room."
"Squad Halt!....Right face!....Hand salute!"
Yeah, that's right. Six old Leathernecks...65, 70, 80 yrs old, expressed their gratitude...from the heart.
Semper Fi old Marines!

I really am disgusted by that statement, every branch has its share of "wash-outs" even the Marines. If you think that every Marine is the nice guy always there to lend a helping hand, than your mistaken. Also all recruiters get fat no matter what branch. My recruiters were all gaining weight and this past November they all started going back to the gym to get in shape.
The Army produces the best soldiers in the world!

The way you make it, you make it as if the Army isn't capabable of doing anything. Not true.

But seriously Poolees, I think some of you forget the fact that we aren't Marines yet so we can't really even have a say against other branches since we haven't done anything important yet. I have got to hand it to you Poolee, you take it on the chin on one thread and go to another and start all over again!
What the Recruiter told you was correct! What you assumed was----well---!
You are what your status here states----POOLEE! You guys are on a list of POTENTIAL recruites, that can be released, for various reasons prior to shipping to MCRD!
Contrary to your post, you guys can be of great assistance to the Corps right now! Get more prospects interested in the Corps and strengthen our ranks! You guys are the best recruiters we have, you are one if them, the people targeted for enlistment!

I agree, the biggest day you've had so far is signing those papers. But, it isn't as if you signed those papers and the EGA was burned into your heart as it will be aboard MCRD. You are a part of the Marine Corps, but so are the sand fleas at PI, and I don't see them saying they've earned anything.

This Army recruiter, (the one I was talking about in the begining) comes to my class quite often. Its the only class he comes to, because none of the other teachers like him. Its my Amer.Gov. class, and my teacher is a former paratrooper. The best teacher i have had. But the recruiter has kinda ruined his own reputation in the "tri-county" area, and isnt very liked at all 3 schools he attends to. He comes in complaining to the class, saying how he cant get anyone to sign, and we are all lazy farmers with no patriotism. It makes people mad, but i just smile, becuase I know he is confused.
On the other hand, when the Marine Corps recuiter(staff sargent) comes he is welcome at all 3 schools, and is very much liked by everyone(except the ARMY recruiter). I see him alot since its a small town, and he's the one who recruited my big sis. Even when I walk through Wal-Mart, i see him and Marine poolees, talking to people all the time. I see more support for the Marine Corps in my town, than any other branch.I really think it is awsome to witness the "Always Faithfull Brotherhood" every where I go! I know the Marines are "Few" BUT I CAN ALWAYS TELL WHERE THEY ARE!!!

You are still a civilan. You signed papers so did I big deal. We have the option of opting out or not. Even if you don't who says that you or I will make it? We could just as easily go to PI and come home with nothing to show for it. So just shut up and pay attention. They may not know everything but they do now a lot more than either you or I know about the Marine Corps. Hell they know more about bootcamp too. Which we have to get through in order to get that EGA. God gave you two ears and only one mouth take the hint.[/QUOTE]
Very well said. Keep 'em squared away!

Where, in the text you just quoted, did you see me state that?
You said...
"You want to join a brotherhood of honor, courage, and commitment, where the Man next to you will cover your six and you'll cover his. That charges into battle with great ferocity, join the Marines. It's what I've chosen."
I guess I am reading inbetween the lines. Why is all that so special if you are saying the Army is the same way? "the Man next to you will cover your six and you'll cover his," says to me, that you are saying Army soldiers are unreliable.

C.W.T.S., Hurricane+++++++++I can see the both of telling that army Ranger you don't like the "floppy hat" Me thinks it would make you one very sorry guy. The US Army Rangers are topnotch troops. Why do you think that Ranger school is the 2ed most wanted school in the service? Becouse it is damn hard. Officers from all branches want this school. There is one school that is harder and that is HALO school. Some people it takes 10 years for them to get into that school. Untill you have the title of Marine don't knock any other branch of our services. GOT THAT.

Sgt. I personally don't like Beret. Especially the Tan Army Ranger Beret.
I do not however think lowly of the Rangers. My older brother was one during Panama Haiti. I know what the Rangers are capable of, I never once said that the Rangers suck, not well trained, or inefficent. I was referring to their Beret. It dosen't match the ACU's or the Army Greens or the Army Dress Blues.
I don't doubt Rangers at all, they are the Army's best troops, and Ranger school is a tough one I know. i live two miles behind Camp Rogers, I hear the gun shots and the helos fly by everyday.
Basically I meant it like this.
"The Cininati Bengals are a good team, but they're Jerseys look awful!"
Sorry for the confusion.

As an Ohio native, I was wondering what Bengals games you have been watching over the last 5 years. Maybe you are getting different Bengals games in Georgia than we get here at the stadium. With one year better than 8-8 over the last 5 years, I would call their jersey the best thing they have going for them...:D

I screw with the Army recruiters all the time... Talk to them in the hallway at school for about 20mins and when he asks me to come by the office... "oh sorry to waist your time but I already enlisted with the Marines..."
Their faces omg... its PRICELESS!!!
That is messed up. The United States Army is the best Army in the world. Just not as good as the United States Marine Corps. But the Army recruiters have to work just as hard as the Marine recruiters and it is not a fun job. From what my recruiter tells me, it takes forever to find someone who is actually interested in joining. So it is very wrong to screw around with the Army recruiters no matter how fun it is.

LMAO another one that loves the Army... Where i live they harasses everyone at my school.. All the Marine recruiters(8 Marines, including 2 GySgt) i have talked to couldn't stop laughing about it. You just don't have a sense of humor.

Well I don't love the Army but, I don't hate them either. While I do agree that it was funny as h3ll. He still shouldn't do it. I hang around the office(Marine Corps) and I hear and see the amount of peolpe who either come or call in and aren't serious. I've even put in some work myself. It's very fustrating when you get people who are just messing around have no intention of joining and are just eating up time that could be better spent doing something that is actually going to meet quota. The war going on doesn't make things easier. Some people will call and set up appt. and never show, that's time that could've been spent on some one who might've actually joined. So yeah while I wish I could've been there to see his face. Don't do it.
btw LMAO.

Curt, I don't give a **** what my post says to you. You don't know nearly enough about me to "read inbetween the lines." Two members of my family were soldiers in the Army. I have great respect for them. That's not my route. Should you somehow still find my post offensive, wipe your pussy and get over it.
All basically meaningless!! We all have our opinions all should be taken with a grain of salt. Hell, my son got banned a couple of days because of this thread. We former and current Marines need to understand that these poolees are not Marines yet and we are in no way going to make them into Marines. We can assist in preparing them but it's the Hat's job at PI or SD to make them into Marines! NOT OURS!!! NONE of use should try to change anyones opinion, and we should accept the opinion of others!! (remember Freedom of Speech?) No poolee is subject to the UCMJ yet!! So my suggestion would be to drop this thread!! WE ARE ALL IN UNIFORM and serve becuase we choose too. One Nation!!! Having said that we former guys also need to understand that these poolee's are not Marines yet and that we should not expect them to act 100% Marine. enough said, drop the thread!!!
If you're in the thick of, your best friend could suddenly be an AF pilot, covering yer butt!! WE ARE ALL ON THE SAME TEAM!!

With all due respect SSGT - maybe you should tell your son this. If he got banned from here it was because of his mouth or attitude towards a Marine. Do you let him talk that way to YOU???? I don't think so. There are rules and regs set up for this site (the first few sticky threads in the forum) that obviously he wouldn't adhere to.
A lot of these Marines in here blazed the path for YOU to walk on also and have been out longer than YOU OR YOUR SON have been on this earth. Tell your son he should take it as a lesson learned and shut up rather than coming to tell Daddy and have Daddy come in here to fight his fight for him.

You are correct...
This young man needed to learn the meaning of RESPECT to the Marines, and since he didn't understand when to cool down after asking him...
We gave it to him to digest...;)

Ellie, why not just delete this kid until he grows up a little more? He obviously will not go by the rules! Maybe some of these Marines might know how to alert MCRD that he is coming their way, might help him when he gets there! LMAO!

This message has been deleted by thedrifter (http://www.leatherneck.com/forums/member.php?u=7). Reason: DIS-RESECT to a MARINE
What about the Marine that dis-respected a higer ranked MARINE?? I capitolize the last Marine because that MARINE I'm talking about is a better Marine then anyone on this site!! By far! Just because he says "With all due-respect" doesn't mean he doesn't mean dis-respect!
Thanks Ellie for leaving THIS one for me ;)
First off CantWaitToSign - I am a WOMAN Marine. I in no way disrespected the SSGT - it's nothing personal - I respect the rank hence the "with all due respect". I've been OUT of the Corps for 19 years now - if I want to be a smarta$$ to a higher ranking Marine that's AD I can! I earned my Title a long time ago.
And, what business is it of YOURS anyway?????
