I guess for me was, the fact that I've always been told I wasn't going to make it no where in this world. Mom and Dad always say that I'm making the worst decision of my life by loosing the weight to join the Corps. I want to prove something to myself, I can find the determination within myself to become a Marine, then nothing in this world can stop me. Plus if and when I come home, i can shove at thie $hit in their faces.
I get all kinds of negativity from family memembers or neighbors saying "This ain't the time for a black man to go to war." or "Why join and fight for Bush?"
I try to explain to them that is not a reason I'm joining, but they won't understand, so you do what you gotta do. Been trying to loose 70lbs for three years trying to get in since I was 16 (going on 17). I was in wieght after I graduated but mom wouldn't sign and thus all the weight came back from going to college and such.
But seeing my friends and my brother making something out of themselves is what got me motivated to join. Got 15lbs to DEP in and gotta be 225 to ship out.

For me the Marine Corps is literally in my blood. My Grandpa served, my dad Served as Force Recon, and my Brother is serving now over in Iraq. I tried going to college. But I just couldnt get pass the fact that this is me and I am going to be a Marine!...go ahead Moderators and already Enlisted Marines I know your gonna say "well thats if you make it through bootcamp!" Well my IST is 22 pull ups, 94 Sit Up and 10:30 Mile and a Half...I more then positive I'll do just fine

I agree with RJ. You need to prove it to yourself that you can make it. That's what I'm all about. This is a PERSONAL CHALLENGE that I WILL OVERCOME.
Becoming a Marine will challenge you mentally and physically. The stress in both of these areas sound overwhelming. You need to be prepared for that.
KMAC, if this is what you're looking for in the Marines. Then go for it. I hope you are up to the challenge, because it will be one. I ask myself this question everyday, yet know it will be answered when I earn the EGA.
