I have been reading a lot of your posts, and many of you say the reason you joined the Marines was becasue it was the most elite, and for pride and personal satisfaction. Did any of you Marines ever think about tryin out for the Seal Program, and why did you choose the Marines over the Seals?

Most people that go for the seals are in TOP NOTCH, BEST SHAPE OF THERE LIFES. Seals, from what I was told, over half the people that try out for the seals dont make it.

I would rather be a Marine anyday.

Why don't you go to a Navy forum and ask them why they didn't whant to be in RECON or FAST Co.

Why does it say you are in DEP but you didnt sign up yet?

Let's say you enlist in the Navy with the sole intention of passing BUD/S and becoming a SEAL. If you're one of the 80% who don't pass the training, then what? You're scrubbing ships while dressed like one of the Village People for your enlistment, that's what.

Why would you be under the impression that the SEALS are more elite than say Force Recon? Their mission is just different.

SEALS are just the navy's attempt the recreate the perfection that god created when he made marines. They have done admirably but its better to go with the original. As for the SF, marines where kind of forced to create it. The thought being that marines are a special force, so why the hell would you need to take the best of the best of the best.

Forget the seals when you can choose to be a Marine for life thats why I joined the Marine Corps and hopefully become one of the few.

This says it all. Also, you can try out for RECON in the Marines if your PFT is high enough, GS of 105 or higher, & a 2nd class swim qual upon completion of basic. If you dont make it you get switched to the UH - Infantry, Option. You cant lose in this situation I believe. SEALS its diffrent as stated above. One more thing in which I recognized after I enlisted, but you just feel more pride in saying "I am enlisted in the USMC. The worlds most elite fighting unit, and I hope I can claim the title of United States Marine." You really share a comoradery with a majority of the POOLEES that are hoping to achieve the same thing, And you can see the "brotherhood" inbetween each and every Marine. When you work out you know you would rather die trieing than dissapoint them all. From what I have seen the other branch's have little or none of this. For example when I went to the Army and Navy Recruiting Office before the USMC one, they promised me $40,000 and really just treated me as a "number" not an individual. A recruiter from the USMC Office said "If you dont think you can do it just get out of my office now." That right there told me alright I want this, I want to be apart of something great. Not just a number in a history book but a United States Marine. & have everything I am represented in just the title. An elite soldier for the country I love.

Hey, I wouldnt mind being a SEAL, that would be sweet. But the Marine Corps has such a brotherhood and Espirit de Corps that noone else has. There is more history and depth to it. So many more stories.

Another thing.... Marines should always be capitalized....

I have no desire to bounce a ball on my nose, so I don't know why I would want to be a seal.

Honestly, the SEALs are great at what they do. However, they have a very limited scope. Marines win battles, SEALs help other people to win battles. They may be involved in some black ops, but so are FORCE guys.

Honestly, if I couldn't be a Marine, SEALs weren't even my next choice. Army Rangers would be second, probably a Combat Controller in the Air Force next, and then the SEALs.

Now, if you want to be a SEAL, go to one of their forums, find out what it takes, understand that you probably won't make it, and then go give it a shot. Have fun being haze gray and underway.

The screwed up thing about the Air Force's Combat Controllers is you have to be an officer to even try to join. But even tho everyone here is or wants to be a Marine, we all have to give it up to Special Forces, the Rangers, Delta Force, the SEALs, FORCE RECON, and the Combat Controllers, they're all the best of the best at what they do and get to play with some cool toys. Oh yeah I almost forgot the Navy SWCCs, without them, the SEALs wouldn't get to where they need to be and then get out of there.

People...

Im not hating on the Rangers, but stop putting them on this pedistal With SF, and Delta Force, and Force Recon. They are light infantry for gods sake!

Marine sounds meaner than SEAL...simple as that.

Skillets, if you'll notice I didn't say anything about Delta of Special Forces. SF doesn't excite be and I believe Delta is redundant of things that are in place in the other services.

I did mention Rangers. I believe they are the second best light infantry out there. They aren't Marines, but they try!!

And, NO you do not have to be an officer to be a Combat Controller. I don't know where you got that, but it is dead wrong. You enter the AF's special ops program by taking their indoc. If you pass they assign you to one of two paths- combat controllers or PJ.

My bad, I guess I got some bad info as I was told you have be an officer. But I still think the Rangers and Airborne stand apart from regular Army Infantry, that's just how I see it, you don't have to agree.

Echo_Four_Bravo
04-19-07, 03:41 PM
The 82nd really isn't that special. They pretty much are regular infantry that happen to know how to jump. In all honesty I'd rather have 10th Mtn or 4th ID on my flank than the 82nd. And the 101st doesn't jump anymore.

Integrity57
04-19-07, 03:52 PM
What's the 4th ID? And that's just sad that the 101st doesn't jump, with a legacy like their's :(

Echo_Four_Bravo

101st is a helo assault unit now. 4th ID= 4th Infantry Devision. They tend to get the newest technology, at least as far as I've seen.

I wonder if they were the unit on Future Weapons that were working with the new "Warfighter" technology and the really teched out strykers? Anyone else see that episode? I know more people on this forum watch that show than just me!

I caught the end of that episode that was some pretty crazy stuff. Seemed like some of it could be confusing though. Anyway, I enlisted with the Marines because it's what I wanted to to do since highschool. But my parents said no, go to college. So I did, I finished my basics, and now im enlisted and ship May 29th. I went in with the uz option so I will be trying out for Recon, and if I don't make it, then I get to be in the infantry. I changed from my original bz option of Data communications Maint.

Kim, I agree who wants to bounce a ball on their nose and be given raw fish as a treat!:D

Poolees getting the straight facts before posting would be helpful to your fellow poolees. Remember, what you see in the movies and tv shows about Seals, Delta Force, Rangers, etc., and even Marines is usually glamourized! So, don't take certain things as gospel truth without a little bit of research from credible sources. Also, Wikipedia isn't totally credible and contains a lot of errors.

Unless they have changed their policy, UDT/SEALs accept BUD/S applicants from all branches of service.

Navy SEALs are equivalent to Marine Force Recon and the other elite service forces in the Special Operations Command.

Check out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Special_Operations_Command for more info.

Why the Corps and not the SEALS? Well, according to my mother, the first word I ever spoke was "Marines". I was with 3rdRecon, so I got nothing against the SEALs, they taught me how to breath under water :D . I got to work with SF,ROK Marines, Australias' 1Commando,and SASR. They're all good men.

There is a pride in being a Marine, that goes straight into a persons' soul. I've been a cop for 23 years. I don't have my badge tatooed on my arm. I have our Emblem. Anyone can be a cop, not everyone can be a Marine.

Someone once said, that you can't address an admiral as "sailor", or an Air Force general as "airman", or an Army general as "soldier'. BUT you can address the Commandant as "Marine", and that's the difference.

It's kinda like riding a Harley. "If I have to explain, you won't understand".

The Few. The Proud. The MARINES.

In the Beginning was the word, and the word was GOD: In the beginning was GOD--and all else was darkness and void, and without form. So GOD created the Heavens and the Earth. He created the sun, and the moon and the stars, so that light might pierce the darkness. GOD divivided the Earth between the land and the sea and these He filled with many assorted creatures.

And the dark, salty, slimy creatures that inhabited the murkey depths of the oceans, GOD called sailors. and He dressed them accordingly, with little trousers that looked like bells at the bottom and with cute little flaps on their shirts to hide hickeys on their necks. He also gave them long sideburns and shabby looking beards. GOD nicknamed them "Squids" and banished them to a lifetime at sea so that normal folks would not have associate with them. To further identify these unloved creatures, He called them petty and commodore instead of titles worthy of red-blooded men.

And the flighty creature of the land, GOD called soilders. And with a twinkle in His eye, and a sence of humor that only He could have, God made the trousers too short, and the covers too large, and pockets to warms their hands. And to adorn their uniforms, GOD gave them badges in quantities that only a dime store owner could appreciate. And he gave them emblems and crests...and all sorts of shiny things that glittered...and devices that dangled. (When you are GOD, you tend to get carried away in a big way.)

On the 5th day, He thought about creating some air creatures for which He designed a greyhound bus driver's uniform especially for flyboys, but He discarded the idea during the first week and it was not until years later that some apostles "resurrected" this theme and established what we now know as the wild blue yonder wonders.

On the 7th day, as you know, GOD rested and on the 8th day, at 0730, God looked down upon the Earth and was not happy. GOD was not happy!!!

So He thought about His labors, and in His infinite wisdom, GOD created a divine creature, and this He called MARINE. And these Marines, who GOD had created in His own image, were to be of the Air, the Land, and of the Sea. And these He gave many wonderful uniforms. Some were green, some were blue with red trim and in the early days, some were even a beautiful tan.

He gave them practical, fighting uniforms, so that they could wage war against the forces of Satan and evil.

He gave them service uniforms for their daily work and training, that they might be sharp and ready...and He gave them evening and dress uniforms.. sharp, stylish, handsome things, so they might promenade with their ladies on Saturday night, and impress the heck outta everybody!! He even gave them swords so that people who were not impressed could be dealt with.

And at the end of the 8th day, GOD looked upon the Earth and saw that it was good. But was GOD happy ? NO!! GOD was still not happy !! Because in the course of His labors, He had forgotten one thing...He did not have a MARINE uniform Himself !! But, He thought about it, and thought about it, and finally satisfied Himself in knowing that, well... not everybody can be a MARINE. But then GOD thought to Himself, He thought to Himself. That these MARINES will Guard His streets of Heaven for Him. The Few, The Proud, The MARINES.
