Okay who has actualy done the PFT.. Place your scores... times w/e...
My time is 26:50 (yes i know i need to work on it)
Pullups 17
Situps 110

Now you dont Count past 20 on the pull ups and you dont count past 100 on the situps.

Heres a Calculator for counting up the pullups, situps, and run time.
http://usmilitary.about.com/od/marines/l/blfitmale.htm

My score is... 232 which is a first class PFT, if im not mistaken someone please correct me if im wrong. Why im bringing this up.

A 225 is first class, so you do have that. Of course, i do believe that every Marine should have a first class PFT.

You do need to work on the run, but other than that you're golden.

Bring those crunches up hawks... thats 100 points you are missing out on.
10 pullups is okay, I mean 3 is the min to pass. But work on it. You are sitting at 200 for PFT score

Motorola07

Rolive you are at 230, work on the pullups and get past it. Just a few more and you will do even better.

Thats a 269. Out of curiosity, Marines, how much did your 3 mile run time improve from the beginning of Recruit Training to by the time you left?

YOU"RE a freakin MACHINE. I knew I guy in boot camp that ran like that when I was in MRP. He ended up getting dropped because he couldn't do 3 pullups due to an injury. But man, when he ran it was nothing but legs flying.

I'm 39 so...

Situps 80

I start with a wide palms facing away grip, then once i start struggling a bit switch to a palms in grip.

For the record, a guy at my RSS can do 26 pullups, a sub 17 minute 3 mile, and 100+ crunches.

He's fourteen, and a freshman. Can you imagine what this guy will be like in 3 years when he DEPs in?

Yea, but he also has some growing to do yet! You never know how his body might change on him.

It is what ever your body can handle. When you do palms away you are working on your back muscles... Doing it with palms forward. you are using your forearm. Do what is easier.

First off let me say that I am really impressed with most of you poolees and means that I've got a little bit of work to do in the next 5 months.. (not that I wasn't going to busting my own a$$ anyway..) but also let me say that about 3 months ago when I did my first PFT ever I could only do about..

3-4 pull-ups
~85 crunches (2min)
3 mil was around 24 min..
which put me at about ~165...

now..

10 pull-ups
95+ crunches (I can never seem to get 100!)
~21:30 for the 3 mil
so that's right at the border of a 1st class.. depending on exactly how fast my run is and exactly how many crunches I do.. but I still got 5 months so I'm PTing my a$$ off!

oh yea I do my pull-ups palms out but I tried palms in the other day and I got the same number.. 10.. my goal is to be able to do 20+ both ways!

Oh it is on now. The second I hit 20 pull-ups I will have the highest PFT, Unless you get your time down more. But at the rate your going now you'll get a 19:00 if not 18:00 before you leave. And I bet you anything if I was running at the same time, you would have get an even better time. But get ready for PT tomorrow, Hell yaaa!

do the armstrong pullup program

All of you guys struggling with running, and ur just barely short of sub 18 time... realize that san diego and PI are sea level and breathing will be a lot easier (unless you're already sea level) but im at almost 5,000 feet where I live, oxygen is quite thin.

Best way to get more pull-ups is to do more pull-ups. Not really much to explain for them. One exercise we do at our station is pyramid pull-ups. You do 1 pull-up, 10 push-ups. 2 pull-ups, 10 push-ups. Then you continue that till you get to the "peak" (for you that should be 5). When you get to the top of the pyramid, you continue the exercise, but start going down. 4, 10, 3, 10, 2, 10, 1, 10. That will help a lot, you may need assisted pull-ups near the top, im sure someone wont mind. Once you can do that, progress the pyramid and try doing 6 then 7 exc. One thing I just did is I went out and bought a pull-up bar, you just place it in your door. Then every time you walk by it do your max set, eventually you will be able to do more. I am at 16 & hoping to get 20 before bootcamp. The pull-up bar is only $20.00, you can get it at Dicks Sporting Goods (And im sure Wal-Mart and Target sell them too). Its deffinatley money well spent.

I'm going to be real honest unlike you other guys.
(Thats right, I'm ****ing jealous)

3 Miles: 23:37
Pull-ups: 2
Crunches: 112

The reason Pull-Ups are low is simple. When i work out with the recruiters, they don't let me do muscle training or pull-ups.
I'm doing carido for an hour! Got 10lbs to shed of so I can DEP in, once I DEP in, then I will concentrate on Pull-ups and Crunches and Running alittle bit more. I have to be 240 to DEP in and I have to be 225 to ship out.

05-10-07, 09:06 PM
You can open your stride up pretty far and keep it open for the entire way and get a breathing pattern down that you find that gets you enough air. Thats how I cut about 2 minutes off my time from 21:49 to about 19:21.

Geez since so many of us already have perfect pft scores, you'd think they would consider raising the standards. Doesn't seem like much of a challenge to me...(or maybe some of us are not scoring ourselves properly)

Echo_Four_Bravo
05-10-07, 09:45 PM
Seeing a perfect score is pretty unusual. Either the people here are PT studs, or some people don't tell the whole truth about their scores. Getting 100 for pull ups and situps/crunches and then running around 20:00 or 20:30 would usually leave you among the top two or three people in my unit.

Motorola07
05-10-07, 09:56 PM
People... you need to actually run the 3 mile... Not add the 1.5 mile run time together, it doesnt count, you will most likely slow down when you run.. And im pretty sure half of you on the 1.5 mile run, sprint at the end... So ya...

HurricaneRJ

I've been wondering the same damn thing. We had this one Marine who couldn't do the three miles that well and sucked at pullups. After boot camp, he was fit three miles was no sweat and pull-ups was a joke to him.

He made Recon and continue to serves until this day with the 2nd Reconnaissance Bn. (I beleive, he is in LeJuene so I must be right.)

Then I see all these guys with 17 min 3 mile runs, 20+ pull-ups. And I was wondering WTF are eating??? Why haven't yah'll shipped out yet and for you dudes out there, if you don't go infantry.......Well I'm keep the statement to myself.:p

Echo_Four_Bravo
05-10-07, 11:29 PM
No reason for them to have to go infantry. We need physically fit MPs, Radio Operators, Truck Drivers, Bomb Hangers, Cooks, etc. Every Marine should be as fit as he/she possibly can be.

I'll still bet almost any amount of money that there isn't one person here that could keep up with my first platoon commander in the fleet. And she was only five foot two. (And yes, I said SHE) She made me want to die on more than one occasion, and I am sure she could do the same to most people here.

Yeah I did 167 sit ups today (I touched my knees not behind my head), I ran 40 laps around my house which is 3 miles and I made it in 17 minutes and I don't know how many seconds, and I did 17 pull ups on a branch on a tree. Gotta do better on the pull ups.

Tovarish1
03-16-09, 06:58 PM
I'm only 13 so I gotta do a little better, considering I'm running the mile tomorrow. I love the mile but most people aren't very fond of it. I think we should at least run 3 miles because I wanna make it into Force Recon. Pretty nervous about that even though I should only worry about it in maybe 5 years.

Tovarish1
03-16-09, 07:06 PM
1.5 is nothing. Yeah I get really tired when I finish 3 miles and I might have to bathe in freezing water but it's a feeling of self worth once you finish those 3 miles. Just think of it this way, run 10, 3 times, and it won't be so bad.

Tovarish1
03-16-09, 07:07 PM
You can do it. What motivates me, is singing some of my favorite songs, not listening to them, but singing them in my head.

Tovarish1
03-16-09, 07:10 PM
I think my mile might be a little faster now that I know how to control my breathing (breath through your nose and out or mouth). And also I lost 2 pounds today. We had fitness testing in my school today and I was 107.6 pounds, now I'm 105. For the record that's okay for someone whose like 62 inches.
