...silence echos in my head as I ponder the imponderables...

...of life, death, and did Captain Kangaroo really love his job....

...having once been a Marine combat veteran.....
...or did the moose and the squirrel really reflect the political realities of a world teetering on the edge of nuclear conflagration.....
...while a wabbit showed us that there was always a way out of our troubles....
...and a mouse showed us that it was ok to be nice......

...and a time came when we needed heros to turn to who live only in our fantasies, while good men fight and die on far away soils for causes certain, yet seemingly ill concieved.....

...when gamesmen lose their battles, men most certainly die....

...while characaters are presented by well meaning men to give us hope for the future.....
...and we seek certain and temporary escape in the silence of our minds....

...pondering the imponderables......

...of life, death, and did Captain Kangaroo really love his job.....

Water drizzingly over a falls,

trickilng down a merry little brook,

sunlight flashing through the trees,

sparkling on the waters,

food for a weary soul.

peace and wisdom in the circle of life.

I go up in the hills from time to time

when things get to be a bit much.

Thrills of life, chills and spills

become overwhelming.

Thoughts scatter,

nerves on edge,

and I sit,

in the midst of the trees,

and listen.

Peace

comes slowly.

Listening to the trees

as they speak

of life and of death,

of things only trees know and understand.

They speak of the summer sun,

and of waters brought by the rains.

They tell of long hard winters,

and of life's eternal cycle.

They pause,

and then continue.

Speaking of the animals they see.

Of the flight of eagles

and of beasts of the fields.

They speak of peace,

and of the passage of the ages.

And I am comforted.

At peace with myself

and the world once again.
