Military Moms React to News of Tours of Duty Being Extended
April 12th, 2007 @ 6:27am by Michael Anthony/KTAR

Valley moms with sons serving in Iraq are dealing with the news the Pentagon is extending tours of duty.

These moms meet once a week at the Sweet Tomatoes near Metro Center.

At this week's meeting they wondered how much longer their sons will be in Iraq.

Wendy Hill has a son in the Marines. "As a mom, I don't . . . I don't want him to stay longer. But they have a job to do and if they have to stay longer, they have to stay longer."

Jackie Woodward also has a son in the Marines. She doesn't think extending his tour of duty is fair. "This whole situation doesn't sit with me. I don't like it at all."

Rose has a son in the Army. "I hope it doesn't happen. I'd like him to be home when he's supposed to come home."

Her son is supposed to be back from Iraq in six months.

Details: The support group meets every Wednesday from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Sweet Tomatoes, located on the access road (north bound) between Dunlap and Peoria.

They host a packing party the last Wednesday of every month from 5 to 8 p.m. at the same location.

The group is not politically or religiously affiliated.
