This is a list of things you have to memorize in boot camp

drill and ceremony (http://usmilitary.about.com/library/milinfo/drill/bldrill.htm), U.S. Marine Corps Rank (http://usmilitary.about.com/od/theservices/a/rankchart.htm), 11 General Orders for a Sentry (http://usmilitary.about.com/library/milinfo/blmarinesentry.htm), Marine Rifle Creed (http://usmilitary.about.com/careers/usmilitary/library/milinfo/blmarinerifle.htm), Marine's Hymn (http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/XJ&sdn=usmilitary&zu=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.usmc.mil%2Fcomrel%2F120day.nsf %2Fmarineshymn%3FOpenPage), USMC Core Values (http://usmilitary.about.com/library/milinfo/blmarinevalues.htm), Marine Corps history (http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/XJ&sdn=usmilitary&zu=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.globalsecurity.org%2Fmilitary% 2Fagency%2Fusmc%2Fhistory.htm), and the Code of Conduct (http://usmilitary.about.com/careers/usmilitary/library/milinfo/blcode.htm). Im sure there are others, feel free to fill it in, my question is how the hell do you memorize all of this? Also what should i start studying now?

You'll be rantin' all that stuff EVERY time you're standing in line waiting on something.

A Private in the Marine Corps is a Seaman in the Navy

Dam, come to think about it, I'm glad I chose the Corps over the Navy ! I wouldn't have wanted to be called anything with Seaman in front of it.

Hahaha, that's funny. But yeah, you will be yelling that everyday you're there till just about when you take your written exam. You will take many practice tests that it's not even funny. It will be second nature to you to know all those things by the 3rd or 4th week in.

Does anyone remember the little red book we were issued and carried around in our shirt pocket? The one with all the Marine Corps stuff in it, anyone remember? That was handy, when we were idol, we were studing that little red book! It had everything we needed to know in it!

I wonder if they still issue something like that to the Recruites now!

Marine84...There were a couple of good ones in Rota...Seaman Samples and a Seaman Bath...think they took much razzing for those combinations??? In answer to the question, I'll just reiterate that you repeat the stuff so much that you say it in your sleep...by test time it's just automatic...

Ours was a little camo book that we HAD to tote around in our cargo pockets on the cammies. It had everything under the sun in it and you have to pull it out every time you're just standing around. I remember at times thinking "dam, have I gone back to first grade?" - HAHAHAHAHAHA!

I still have my "green monster" including the athletic tape on the spine stamped with my name. It isn't a tiny book, but I can remember getting to the point where I knew what was on every page. It isn't as difficult as people want to believe it is.
