OCEANSIDE, Calif. — Some slight delays have pushed back the arrival date to Saturday, April 7, for 145 Marines and sailors returning to Twentynine Palms, Calif., after a combat deployment in Iraq, Marine Corps officials said Friday.

The 130 members of Marine Unmanned Aerial Squadron 1 were expected to return to their desert home base, Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, on Saturday instead of Friday, according to Gunnery Sgt. Christopher Cox, a combat center spokesman.

The “Watchdogs” of VMU-1, who pilot the Predator unmanned aerial vehicle, spent six months supporting military units in Iraq’s Anbar province with Marine Air Control Group 38 (Reinforced) and 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing.

The homecoming celebration won’t be the only weekend party at the desert base.

Fifteen Marines with 3rd Battalion, 11th Marines, are expected to arrive at the combat center on Saturday after their deployment to Iraq with the artillery battalion, Cox said.

And on Sunday, 25 Marines and sailors from 1st Tank Battalion and 15 members of Delta Company, 1st Assault Amphibian Battalion, are expected to return home to the combat center, he said.
