Quantico Marines takes top honors within their MOS
By Sentry Staff
Quantico’s Public Affairs and Combat Visual Information Center Marines took top honors in their military occupation specialty jobs for 2006. The Quantico Marines received 9 of the 29 print journalism awards and 3 of the 18 broadcast journalism awards.
Each year, the Marine Corps’ Division of Public Affairs sponsors the U.S. Marine Corps Combat Correspondent Association and Public Affairs Merit Award, which recognizes Marines’ professional excellence in print and broadcast journalism. The merit awards are given for various categories within journalism, and DIVPA awards three winners in each category. The first place winners will represent the Marine Corps against other services at the Department of Defense Thomas Jefferson Awards Program competition.
The Thomas Jefferson Awards Program is a competition for military print and broadcast products. The annual contest is sponsored by the American Forces Information Service and the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs to stimulate and reward excellence and professionalism in military print and broadcast media.
The Marines will accept their merit awards at the 66th annual United States Marine Corps Combat Correspondent Association and Public Affairs Leadership conference, which will be held at the Wilshire Grand Hotel in Los Angeles Sept. 11-14.
