10thz- You're an old Arty man. Did you ever hear the now antiquated term, "Riding the gunner's daughter"? Used to be a punishment for insubordination/dereliction of duty in the artillery. The culprit was laid, face-up, on top of a field piece. Wrists tied to the axle tree; feet tied to the trail.
The gun was then hooked on the limber, and the horse teams pulled the gun around at high speed. Considering the total lack of "suspension", sounds like no fun to me! I have ridden seated on a limber at high speed, and it's enough to jar your guts out!

Nope, never heard of that one. The one I use to hate was when I was an 0800, "CSMO" (change station march order). They usually pulled that one after and hour or so of sleep in the middle of the night. I still didn't like it when they put me in comm.

Once in a middle of the night during a lull on regimental arty shoot in Mount Fuji I had so little sleep for days in FDC I fell asleep on the radio right across the table from the battalion commander http://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/tsmileys2/11.gif

I guess if you are going to get caught by the Old Man, it better he didn't walk in and see you sleeping, better to pass out in front of him http://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/tsmileys2/04.gif

On that shoot we were suppose to be tactical, here's me a corporal yelling at the top of my lungs in the middle of the night at the wire chief (same rank) and unkowingly the battalion commander is hearing and seeing all of this. The big fat slob wire chief, a 10 year E-4 ate all the good "C" rats. I took the can of boned pork he gave me and he was in the back of a six-by by the cab and I winged it at him as hard as fcuking could. The Old Man (CO) never said a word http://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/tsmileys2/18.gif
