Hello, Marines!
I send care packages, about 10 a month, to various Marines that I "adopt" through anymarine dot com. I've been looking for an answer to the following question, and I'm after the real deal kind of answer, not the pat PC answer I get from the postal service and other sites telling civilians what to send and not to send in care packages.
I hear we're not supposed to send magazines of, well, "questionable taste". Here's the deal... I've got a TON of these that were offered to me by a gentleman who found out what I was doing and offered up an incredible collection of Playboys and Penthouses and such that his new bride was making him throw out. Well, I found out afterwards that apparently I'm not supposed to send p*rn to our boys in Iraq and Afghanistan.
If this is a "don't want to offend muslim sensibilities" thing, then my natural response to that would not be befitting of a lady, so I'll just say politely that this is not something that I am too concerned about. All I care about is giving our guys a smile, and if a few of these fun magazines can do that... Then I don't mind taking the chance by lying like a rug on the customs forms (which I've been doing for a while now). I also send Slim Jims with pork in 'em, so Allah can just put that in his pipe and smoke it, as far as I'm concerned. But I digress...
However, if it's a USMC thing or if my guys could get in any trouble for having these magazines, I would never want to do anything that would cause any problems for them. I haven't received but two letters back from the Marines, but both letters raved about the magazines, and I kept them coming to those Marines throughout the rest of their deployments.
But can anyone answer me WHY they supposedly aren't allowed, if they are truly not allowed, and should I heed this to keep from getting Marines in trouble, or should I just keep sending them over if it won't cause our boys a problem?
Thanks so very much!
