View Full Version : Fred Thompson For President???

Being from Tennessee myself, I must say that I have no Idea where Mr. Thompson is calling home! He's not registered anywhere in Tennessee to vote, nor does he have any business in Tennessee, that I know of! The point is that when he ran for US Senator, he drove across the state in his pick up truck and plaid shirt, and gathered the votes to be elected. I always thought he did it just to see if he could! Don't get me wrong, I think he was a fairly good Senator, I just never understand why he really quit his job. He said to spend more time with this family and pursue his acting career, well he is doing that now. How do we know he won't buckle under the stress and pressure of the White House and quit again! He just doesn't seem to have the motivation to lead this great country of ours!

Again I have nothing but the highest respect for the man, I enjoy watching him on television shows and movies, but CAN HE BE PRESIDENT, only by NAME RECOGNITION? It worked well with Reagan, but he pretty well proved himself in California!

My point is this, not all actors would make a good President of the United States!

Comments?

I suggest that "NONE OF THE ABOVE" be added to the ballot! If it wins, that office stays empty for the current term! Might be able to really clean (flush) out D.C. once and for all!

Ellie, your ad was why I started this thread! I couldn't respond to your ad! I agree with your assessment of Mr Thompson, completely! I am sure he is a fine man, but I'd hate to see the country elect his running mate to become President after Mr Thompson quits! Think about that! He is a good actor, he follows scripts well, but who writes the script of the White House in reality? Not Hollywood, that's for sure! In real life the story don't always end well, and people DIE if mistakes are made!

I'd be curious to see his positions on the issues, but I like the guy. Everyone discounted Reagan as an idiot actor and he proved them wrong.

Sen. Thompson was interviewed several weeks ago on Fox News Sunday i regret that i didn't catch the whole thing. Did anyone else?

BTW does anyone know how he is doing in the polls?

The man seems to have outstanding character.. Every interview I have heard with him impressed me.. I dunno if maybe he is putting on a show for everyone... But I don't care.. Its the right show.. Most of the other reb's come across as talking head country club types with no real substance.. Rudy could beat billary ... Sure... But a man like Thompson could energize the country... That is until the dem's dream up fake scandal after fake scandal... That never slowed Reagan down though...

If we were voting today... He would have my vote... with Hunter as his VP.

I never said he is an ldiot! I said I have the highest respect for him! I even noted Reagan was one of the best Presidents we've ever had. What I said was he resigned his Senate seat to spend more time with his family and pursue his acting career. Frankly, If Mr Thompson were elected it would be great for Tennessee if he turned out like Mr Reagan, But it isn't likely!

I appreciate your response and comments, and I have a feel of how the majority of you feel, thanks for the input, Marines. :)

Sen. Thompson chose not to run again because of health problems with one of his family members. Instead of using it as a campaign tool, he chose to spend time with his family in a time of crisis. He did not "quit" his seat. Given the choices we now face he looks very, very good. However, we are 19 MONTHS from the election and it rather pi$$es me off that we have to put up with all of these damn politicians immediately after the last election. How about giving the voters a short vacation before we start hearing the constant barrage of "vote for me because the other guys' an as$" blah, blah, blah!
Of course, with any luck at all, all of these clowns will have burnt out in another few months and the real candidates can be heard. I know, not likely!
:(

Just for the record, If Mr Thompson did run, with what's in the race now in both parties, I'd vote for him and take a chance, He is honest!

Re Acting like a politician

Reagan did a pretty good job of that.
W is a second generation politician and CAN'T act like a president. Big reason is no one can understand what he says, he butchers a speech so badly that if he was the one who gave the Gettysburg Address no one would remember it.
It's laziness.
Reagan would work on a speech the way he studied lines for a movie and when he went on TV people thought he was speaking from his heart instead of spitting out what a speechwriter wrote for him.
Bush gets speeches from the same quality writers and then proceeds to murder them
No excuse for his crappy delivery. Everything a president says is supposed to be important but when W talks, no one can understand WTF he's saying.
Don't get me wrong. I sure wouldn't want that pompous ignoramous Al Gore being prez.
I just wish we had another conservative choice.
The record shows W isn't the sharpest knife in his family's cutlery drawer.

Yep, ol' Fred would be an improvement over any of the others who have their hat in the ring. I'll just take a wild guess here on who will be running against each other - Fred Thompson (R) and Bill Richardson (D). It's anyones guess who will be their running mates.

I think that both parties engage in Hopeless Candidates. They get these beyond hope candidates to declare only to raise money.

Sad to say, Fred Thompson and Bill Richardson will not be President. But they will raise millions for their respective party.

Well, when all is said and done, a brick would suffice to set in the oval office. On the serious side, old Ahhnold would do in a pinch, however the Constitution would have to be changed (he is an immigrant). Whoa, wait......I forgot......the Constitution is no longer a valid instrument. The good old boys have turned it into just another piece of yellowing parchment and use copies of it for TP.
