I was reading on the forum somewhere how much the services are paying today.In 1954 I got out of PI as a pvt (only 4 guys made pfc ) making 76.50 a month .Went to Air prep. school Jax made Pfc 96.00 a month,went to another aircraft engine school then to a squadron ,a year and a half later I made crewchief and Cpl.117.50 a month plus flight pay 40.00.With 1 month to go on a 4 year tour I made Buck Sgt. 147.50 ..Sure wasn't much money but the chance to travel ,priceless.Sgt. Remember well as a E-4 over four got 240 a month , seemed like a lot of money at the time. that was 63 I believe.

I will say one thing thought,The Marines taught me a good trade.After I got out in 58 I piddled around at nickle and dime jobs for two years then in 1960 got a job with a major airlines making 24.000 a year ..

you'll proboly come out of iraq with 14,000-18,000 depending on time in grade I came back in 2004 with 25,000 as a CPL.
