The house mouse is in charge of tidying up and cleaning the duty hut (the duty Drill Instructor's sleeping quarters). Access to this area is restricted so you'll likely be cleaning it alone.

actually there is usually two house mouse's so you will never clean alone. and if u are the house mouse then do not i mean do not touch any of the Drill Instuctor's cover. VERY BAD IDEA

Sometimes, but they do not get special recognition just because of this EXTRA DUTY! It is extra duty because you have to attend to your business as well as the DI's!

Dont quote me on this, but i believe that "House Mouse" is supposed to be a IN house thing only, and that it is not supposed to exist.

Skillets, you are correct. It's not an 'official' thing as far as I know, but someone who has a current copy of the SOP's could tell us more.

Not a detail I'd want if I could help it.

I was a house mouse in my platoon. Skillets is right. You don't ask to be one. They choose you, and one other. My Drill Instuctors used to come in the duty hut when we were cleaning it and we were called Roaches. If he held is hand out and yelled RAID. I was possed to roll over on the deck and act like the Black Flag comrcl and wiggle like I was dieing.Plus they( DI's) would accuse me of touching there things and put me on the qauter deck and where my ass out for the fun of it.Stear clear of the "House Mouse" assignment my friend.

LOL i have a good story on this one. since 2 scribes were made house mouses and I was one of them.. Sgt Anderson was one of our greenbelts and i guess one time while i was cleaning the guide said something and how ever it came up i was asked by him if I would protect him and I yelled yes sir. He goes oh so Senior is on his own then is he? I replied senior drill insturctor SSGT Marshall can handle his own sir.. and he was OH is that right..

So later on Sunday when we were cleaning he told me to get over to the desk I did he got his warbag set it down and told me if I thought he needed me to help protect him as he pulled out a knife and marshall arts books. Then he said GET OUT of my duty hut.. and i went back to where my rack was and the scribe desk was and he opened the blinds of the window overlooking the squadbay and tapped hard pointed at me and moved his finger to come over i went to the window and he flipped me off and the blinds went down just as fast..

He was really cool I would see him after i got into the fleet and was an awesome guy. But I still must say it's not the same talking to your DI in the fleet I will always have respect for the Marines who made me into one.

I know this reply is a bit off but thought i'd share with ya future scribes and house mice.
